Comment by bluesunshyne on June 4, 2011 at 2:13pm Hi All!
Can someone give me an answer to this question? My husband and myself went with my son the day after he turned 17 in October of last year to the Recruiters office and signed paperwork for him. The Recruiter new he just turned 17. He went to MEPS a month later, signed his contract and received his ship date of July 6, 2011. The Recruiter told him in April that his ship date has been delayed because he won't be 18 within 90 days of starting bootcamp. This makes no sense to me if they had all of his paperwork when he went to MEPS and we signed for him the day after his 17th birthday. By the way his Recruiter said that they won"t cancel his July 6th date that he will have to show up then they will cancel it then give him a date for some time in late August. Thanks for any advice you have to offer.
DEPPERS: start running now!! :) My daughter got ASMO'd for a torn up knee from not being in shape before BC. You don't wanna stay in BC any longer than you have to, so please, if you don't listen to your own mother (which mine didn't!!), please listen to me and start toning up now while you can do it slowly!!
Good Luck!!

Comment by Craig on May 29, 2011 at 9:29pm LadyHawk - Navy lingo is something special. A lot of civilians would be offended. I truly don't know if their is a "sugarcoated" version here at N4M.
With that said, here is the true lingo. IF YOU GET EASILY OFFENDED DON'T OPEN THIS LINK:

On that note, if you want to see how well you think you may know the Navy, take the test I posted:

Comment by Craig on May 29, 2011 at 4:30pm Hey ladies,
I just posted this over in the Cryptology section because someone asked. Thought I'd post it here to help your deppers out. As you probably know, I run a deppers forum (NavyDEP.com), and one of my deppers made this Wallpaper for his computer so he could study while he was on my website. I bet if you print this off, your depper will learn the rate (rank) structure and other items really quick. Have them make it as their wallpaper on the computer. It make it really easy to study.
Rachael (Sam's Mom) - I hear you on the waiting! My son started talking to the Navy recruiter near the end of his Junior year. By June or July of 2009, the recruiter made a home visit to answer our questions. I had to do all the signing because B 's step-dad had not adopted him when we married. Anyway, my son went to MEPS the first time in Oct. 2009 (his Senior year - QNJ qulaified, no job). MEPS again in March 2010 (Reserve). After he graduated in June 2010, he went to MEPS again (this time Active Nuke). We waited 9 months before he went to Boot Camp!
He had only one wisdom tooth, so that came out at home. The waiting AFTER graduation was almost unbearable. He was anxious and so was I, but thankfully he got involved with our local Campus Life group at our middle schools and he audited a class at our local university (Biblical History and Literature). He had time on his hands, but he put it to good use.
The time will fly by - your son will want to spend time with his friends and that's ok. Keep the lines of communication open with him and let him know you are so proud of him and tell him constantly that you love him, if you don't already do that!
Begin now to work on clearing his room of unwanted items. Start talking about some of this now. We did this together - it was B's choice to get rid of things or put things in storage. It will make life so much easier when he does leave, then you won't have to try and communicate what you're wanting to do in his room. We also packed an "A School" box. Things he would want/need once he got to A School - clothes and stuff. That way it's already done and can be shipped to him when he's ready for it.
Gosh! I could go on and on! This is our experience and how we handled all of this. Hope this helps to some degree.
Good Luck to all who are waiting - it's worth it though! Blessings!
