Kathy: You will run into some real hardcore "Opsec" members on here. I'd rather say something to you now than have one of them chew you out. Between you and me and the internet, I firmly believe there are satellites that monitor every little move these ships make! How in the world can you 'hide' a destroyer? Anyway, that's my personal opinion (and that of a Rear Admiral I had coffee with earlier this year). I've often asked the Opsec fanatics how the Navy thought they could possible manage to keep 26,000+ members (mostly civilian mama's) in the 'know' about Opsec!!?? Okay, I'll get off my soapbox and go fix dinner. lol
Oh, here's Opsec in a nutshell: Don't talk about where ships are going and when they're going. (no further dates, only current and past). However, if you ever get a chance to attend a homecoming, the local news will disclose the arrival of a ship/ships 2 or 3 days before they arrive!

I deleted it Melissa...I guess I got confused by what to put and what NOT to by your comment about son's ship. Mums the word from here out...better to be safe than sorry for sure.

I'm so happy for you Anita, over 20 month....that's a long time! You deserve to be with your sailor!

Hi, everyone!! Well the USS Mustin is celebrating it's Thanksgiving Dinner today. A little early but my son was excited!! He couldn't wait to get at the food.
Speaking of excited!!! He will be home for Christmas and New Years!! In 2007 he was in Boot Camp and in 2008 in Japan. We haven't seen him for over 20 months!! I can hardly wait!! Hope you are all doing ok.

Kathy, you became an 'official destroyer mom' when your daughter received her orders!! Yep, those midnight watches aren't much fun....I guess they are even worse on the ship when it's cold outside. Sounds like there will be 2 or 3 sailors in Tucson for Christmas!!
I was pretty miserable last Thanksgiving and Christmas with no Sailor....so I'm going to enjoy my Sailor starting in about a week! If your daughter needs a Navy Mom hug while she's here, let me know and I'd be happy to oblige! lol

Have you read the paragraph about OPSEC? You disclosed the name of a ship and when it's coming into port. We can never assume we are the only one's reading these posts. You may want to delete your comment. :)
