Heather's school had to do the same thing Thursday. I think they were trying to make them see what happens if they mess up! The engineering school was allowed to go off base for liberty this past weekend as long as they had 2 buddies with them! They didn't mind. They were glad to just get away. They went to the mall for 7 hours!!! Heather is in Phase 2 so she got to wear civilian clothes. She went shopping and bought some new stuff. She also had to color her hair this weekend. A Petty Officer said something to her about her highlights. I went to our hair stylist and sent Heather everything she needed. It turned out OK, but she hasn't ever colored her hair, so it was a scary thought! She is naturally blonde, but she is a light brunette now! Looks good.

Hope you have a good week. ~Denise~

Thank you Denise...even though my sister was sick for a long time having her pass away was not any easier but she is not suffering anymore.
Wow, that was really interesting info about GL. There have been some problems in MS as well and Erin had to sit through (i forget the name) something similiar to court. She said one sailor was kicked out. How about that Navy lingo! I feel like i need a translator sometimes just to have a conversation with Erin. All is well though i'm happy to report on this end with A school.
Glad Heather is doing well. As a young woman and a mother i think Heather has really made a wise choice in the long run with this career move. I will say hi to Erin for you...and you do the same to Heather from me and Happy belated B-day as well!!

Kim, I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I know how tough it must be. Good to know this info.

Heather is starting Phase 2 of her school. She gets to wear civilian clothes, but liberty has been halted the past 2 weeks. Unfortunately, a couple sailors put themselves in unfortunate situations in GL and have died. They can't leave off the base for liberty. But, she is OK with it. She stays busy studying and with duty. I talk to her every day. She says the base is really getting crowded with all the new arrivals. I can't understand what she is staying most of the time! I guess I need to brush up on my Navy lingo!!!

I will be thinking about you! Tell Erin I said Hi! ~Denise~

Hey everyone :) I see some have not started school yet which is the situation with Erin. She is supposed to start on Monday and she is climbing the walls because there is nothing to do in Meridian Mississippi except complain about the weather! I had my first experience calling the red cross. My sister passed away last week and Erin was not sure about coming home. Just so you all know the red cross will make contact with the sailor's (or any military person) officers if it is an immediate family member
(mom, dad, brother or sister). Since it was Erin's aunt the red cross instruced me to have the funeral home send a copy of the death certificate to Erin's officers fax and then i guess if Erin had wanted to take liberty she would have to make the arrangements herself with the officers. Erin decided to stay in MS in case school had started. Ok, hope all is well with everyone and your sailors. Talk to you all soon

I don't think Heather was kidding about losing weight. My Lauren was 107 pounds and 5'7 tall when she entered GL. . She told me at PIR she lost 10 pounds at GL. They burn alot of calories and they are eating food that they are not used to. Not to mention the exercisize they make them do. The pants she had wlll most likely not fit her any more

Laura,

I know that money is burning a whole in her pocket it too! But, I am proud of her she is saving money too! She told me not to send her any pants because what she has at home will be too big. I think she just wants to spend money! That mall being so close is dangerous! Thanks for the suggestion on the photo to the recruiter! She bought the largest pack of pictures and we have a small family. I sure don't want to waste any sitting in a drawer!

Denise,
I forgot to ask what Heathers address is. I'd like to send her a card, better late than never, for her birthday. If you would like to e-mail it to me so it's not public that's o.k.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Denise,

Welcome home. I hope you and your daughter had a great time in NY. It's a fun place. I thought posting the USPS thing would help us all send our kids clothing to them. Pretty soon our kids can start wearing civies on the weekends. Lauren's in SC which is very hot and extremely humid. She asked me to PLEASE send her sandals. lol. She received part of her sign on bonus last week for her college degree. So she bought herself a new desktop to play her games on. Funny how kids are , we bought her a top of the line sony desktop when she started college. Then she wanted a sony vio laptop for Xmas. Of course now they aren't good enough. Kids!!! I asked her to send her laptop back to me. Reminds me of the old phrase "spends like a drunk'en sailor". I told my husband to relax it's her money she can do what she wants. Hey, we didn't have to go through boot camp, she did. lol. Whatever, I'm just so glad she is having a good time. By the way did anyone else send a wallet photo to the recruiters office? They like to put them on the recruiters board.

Nancy, yes school started and she has her 1st test Friday on her BIRTHDAY! I really haven't been able to talk to her too much in the past week since I was in NYC. She texted me today and said she will call tonight so we can catch up! She will be in GL until December! I am sure she will see some snow. She is also in a room without airconditioning. You know being from Texas we can't even imagine that! I can't wait to talk to her tonight. Even with school started she seems like she has a lot of free time. I bet time is going by slow for Ryan. I am sure he will make the best of it! ~Denise

Denise - Has Heather's A School started yet? Ryan is climbing the walls still waiting for corpsman classes to start. He sounded so bored when he called tonight. Poor kid. He's got a TON of energy. I hope they start soon.
