I would call fleet and family services at the base in Norfolk and ask them who the FRG contact is for the Ashland. They'll put you in touch with the president of that group who is usually a family member. They have all sorts of activities for the families. You can contact Fleet and Family services at 757 444-2101. If this doesn't work out for you, let me know.

How does one do that? my son is attached to the USS Ashland, however he just got in SAR school and left Little Creek on Sunday to go to Swimmer school in Jacksonville, FL... After that 4-5 weeks he will be back to the ship before they deploy later in the summer... I would love to meet others with sailors on the Ashland.
Comment by Theresa on April 24, 2013 at 9:02am Paige, Is your husband attached to a ship? If so, look into joining their Family Readiness Group. This will lead you to family members who work with your husband. It's a good way to meet people in your area.
Comment by mama spence on April 19, 2013 at 6:36am Hello, bella2039
There are several places near Little Creek that is very nice to stay. Norfolk and Va. Beach areas are nice, but with the warmer weather coming, it may be very hard to find any area that is not over populated. As most people whether they are in the military or not will want to be at the ocean front. Then you will have new military families and moving in/out and that will increase the population in the area, also. As we live in NC, we have a place at Nags Head, NC that we go to in the summer, for laying on the ocean front, fishing, swimming, and just relaxing with the family, shopping, boat rides, water parks, very nice places to eat at, whether you want to be over the ocean or inside some of the area restaurants. So I'm not to sure how Va. Beach/Norfolk area is, but the time we were there, it was very crowded, but mainly all the people we met, was very nice. I hope this helps, but like I said, we're from NC and we love Nags Head, because that's where our family goes and stay in the summer.

Comment by mama spence on March 20, 2013 at 11:53pm Hello everyone :) Just want to touch base and let you know our middle son is stationed at Little Creek, he has been there since A school. He loves it, because it's close to NC, where we live. We are about an hour and half from Little Creek. Hope everyone is doing alright, prayers going out for everyone and all their love ones in the military.

Comment by Proudkmom on March 20, 2013 at 8:14pm Hello kdbqin and mama spence,
Great to see some new names here. My son has been stationed at Little Creek for almost a year. He likes being there. The only down side is we are from Oregon so it is very far away. He is part of ACU 4 and works on hovercrafts. Welcome to our group.
