Navy For Moms

I'm trying to plan ahead and see what we can get Claire for Christmas- things she has room for while she is on ship and will use. We've already gotten her a Kindle electronic reader last year before she left for Japan. She has a laptop already and has bought a good camera there. Any ideas from anyone??? I'd sure appreciate them. Thanks so much!

I'm very interested in this topic also. Matt will not be home for xmas so I want to send him a nice Xmas box, he will be shipping out from C school to his homeport and ship the beginging of 2010. So I need to think of things he will need on the boat. He also has a kindle, laptop and camera. I have heard talk about the "rackpacks" has anyone purchased these, are they allowed on any of the ships and did your sailor find them handy? The site that sells them is not too user friendly.

Millye, I have seen a site for nice fitted rack sheets that can have the ships emblem embroidered on them. Perhaps Caire would like something like that? I can't remember the site, but if you google i am sure you could find it and if, in the meantime i come accross it, I will forward it on.

I got my son a Rackpack for his birthday. He really likes it! Order early - she'll tell you exactly how long it takes, and it does take that long!

And I have no idea what we'll get him this year - will be watching this thread with interest.

Stocking stuffing ideas - a small sewing kit.

And Helen, the site that sells them isn't user friendly, but the LADY that sells them is!! She's not a webmaster for certain - but she is #1 in customer service. Email her and ask her about which size your son's ship needs. She really is great.

Where do you get these Rackpacks?

Karen, yes I have heard nothing but good things about the packs. I think I have to wait to see where Matt is going and which ship he will be on. Should hear in the next coupe of weeks!

Crazy question...what are Rackpacks??

Reply to This

ok Heather I had the same question, so I googled it. Here is the website - they are actually really cool. They are a storage area that attaches to the inside of the curtain on their racks.

Thanks Debbie! I have heard a few ppl talk about them, just never really knew what they were. That does look like a great idea though since they have such little space and they are not noticeable either.

I have heard you have to have your package mailed by Nov. 13th for overseas. Did you hear the same?

How do you tell what size rackpack to get for each ship? Claire is on the USS George Washington and I'd like to get her one.

Millye, email the lady and ask her. I tried to find it, but couldn't. I wish she would get a webmaster!
