Tiffany, my son is on the USS Porter. I sure hate to hear about the long delays in school. I know you are excited about the possibility of moving GL. When I was very young (16-17) I lived just south of Chicago at Rantoul AFB (now closed) for a short while. I was too young to appreciate the Chicago area and it was very cold there. However, for you and your husband it will work out great just be able to be together. Good night everyone!

Yeah Debbie, I don't know which weapon's system is the best but I know William will definately try to make the best possible grades in order to get the best specification/locale. I wanna say that I hope we go to San Diego, but at the same time, I don't know which place is the one that everyone wants to go to. William says that he really doesn't wanna go to Dam Neck, VA lol...not sure why. William is going to someone's house for Thanksgiving as well - they found out he's a great cook and he's been volunteered to cook, which he enjoys, and I only wish I could be there with him, I've never had a Thanksgiving of my own with him cooking. I'm just glad I get to spend time with him during Christmas leave. Hopefully before then I can move up there if we get approved for an advance on a dislocation allowance. Tuesday is signing day for the lease at Forrestal Village though, which I'm so excited about.

Connie, your son may be on the USS Mustin.

Oh, it took Ian just over a year to complete his time in GL. The holds are that long. He has to wait two months to report to Dahgren too. At least he gets to come home for a couple weeks for Christmas.

For those wondering about the Enterprise (affectionately called the Enterprison), all go there until they get their indoc done. Then they get there ship. Ian has been in the Porter since last February. He has enjoyed his time in GL but is glad to get out of another Chicago winter.

Hello all. Its been a long time since I jumped in here. Ian has finished all A and ATT schooling and will be reporting to Dahlgren Jan 11. He gets 3 months there. Then, he is not thrilled with his orders. Seems he gets to sit and wait in Norfolk for the Gravely to get up and sailing. It might take 2 years. He was told he could have his pick and Hawaii was on the list, then they said, you did so well and with your system we need you here. So much for doing well and getting pick. Its still up to to the Navy and their needs. At least he will get to go to his grandparents 50th next June in PA.

Tiffany/ Connie - you are correct, where they are stationed for C school depends on their classification and weapon they are going to be working on, and availability of space at that school. Both Virginia and San Diego have C schools starting on 4 Jan and 1 Feb. for various weapons. My son's class and the class before them that will be finished this week, have not gotten their orders yet, so none of them know which coast they will be going to. We are hoping for San Diego, which is only about 300 miles from our house and even less from the rest of the family. But of course, that would be in a perfect world, not the Navy world. lol My son is also going to someone's home for thanksgiving. Since he was in BC last year, this will be our second Thanksgiving apart. I am thankful that there are families who are opening their homes to them.

Tiffany, you are right. My son was probably speaking of himself and I misquoted him. He would be happy to go Ca or Virginia. It is us (his parents) that would like for him to be closer. We miss him.

Connie, i think where you get stationed for C school depends on what classification they go into (you have FC but there are diff types of specifications for it)...all i know is for FC its either Virginia or San Diego, CA

Yes, you are the Debbie I was talking to. Somehow I thought it was your son that got orders for Hawaii (how lucky can someone be). My son said they were told they would be going to Virginia for C school. That would make us so happy since we are from NC. But as long as Matt is happy we are happy. And most of all we are proud of him and all our sailors. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. My son said he and several others have been invited to someone's house for dinner and the guys are frying the turkey. I just had to ask if the fire dept would be standing by! Just had to tease alittle.

Connie - if I am the Debbie you were talking to, yes, my son is FC. And unfortunately, he is STILL IN GL. The holds have been pretty long since he got there a year ago. He is just finishing up A school, about 1 -2 weeks left. Then 18 days of ATT. He has been told that he won't get orders to move to his C school until sometime in Feburary. My understanding is that anyone in the AECF field will not have any problems finding a job in the civilian arena when they get out of the military. With the recession, I am not sure that is true right now, but as we all now, things change. My son is also enjoying the Navy a great deal and plans on making it a career. He didn't go in until he was 22, and the way he looks at it, he can travel the world and still retire at 42 and still do something else. Please thank your husband for his service to our country.

Debbie, your son is FC and no longer at GL? My son is just beginning the schools for FC. That was a change just after BC. We thought ET to begin with. Either one is OK with us. Is your son still enjoying that field? I am wondering what that qualifies them for after the Navy if he so desires to get out. Right now is is enjoying it all and saids he will be in for a long time. We live near several large Marine Corp Air Stations with many civilians working at these bases. My husband is former Navy and a civilian worker and saids the doors will be open for him. Thanks for all the information you provide on this group.
