Darth, yes they still get paid. Probably how the end of the month fell.

Question--While they are in FIT and if they have missed their PIR date, do they still get paid? I just checked my son's account and not sure if it was due to that reason or is it because the end of the month fell on a Sunday?

Darth - IDOC is where they learn the rules of the base and stuff. As for phases...they all start out in phase 1 - no civilian clothes, no over night liberty stuff like that...just a step up from bootcamp. Then they take tests to earn privlages. Phase 2 they can wear civilian clothes and get over night liberty...they basically earn as they go. It can take some guys longer than others to get phase 2. It took our son a little while because he was not really worried about getting to wear civilian clothes...he had no where to go so he was not worried about it. LOL They can have their cell phones and computers in phase 1.
I hope I have explained this right. Hang in there and keep me posted on how your recruit is doing.

Darth,
Aaron is and FC, which is part of the AECF - they are either an FC (Fire Controlman, work on the computers that run the weapon systems) or an ET (Electronics Technician, work on the electronics on the ships or radar systems). Do you know which one your son is?
He was only in the THU for a couple of days before he moved over to the A school side. It all depends on what his orders say. Once your son finishes his run he will move to the THU and then after a bit (this varies greatly for each recruit) he will move over the A school side. More than likely he will be on the Enterprise for a short time before moving to his permanent ship. He will do INDOC on the Enterprise and can work towards phase two. Once he is over on school side he can have his cell phone and laptop. I don't talk to Aaron every day but it is nice knowing that he is only a text away.

Joan,
I am sorry to hear about your daughters injuries. From the reading I have done on this site stress fractures seem to be fairly common. We were very lucky with Aaron that he never really got sick or had any injuries. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. Be strong and stay positive!!!
