For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Is there a Mom who may have attended that took pics at the graduation. My son maybe a friend of one of yours or mb he's in somebody's pics. Thanks. B's Mom.

Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on September 17, 2016 at 3:52am: Here's a tidbit I learned from a corpsman at Naval Hospital Pensacola: When a sailor prepares for boards for their warfare quals and they get to the murder board, don't panic over the name. It's not (just) because you're about to be slain with questions. It's because two or more crows together are called a "murder," hence, murder board. (Petty officers = "crows.") Might help your corpsman calm down a little LOL

Comment by Ann..DevilDocMom on September 5, 2016 at 11:10am: Thanks March. He's completing FMF training and his orders are 1st Medical Battalion 1st Marine Logistics Group..
He didn't go to this right after Corpsman A school. He worked assisting in the Dept of Surgery at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort for 2 years. He was suppose to do 3 there but after expressing he really wanted to do this they cut his time short. Was given 2 awards and sent right away and started FMF training ends this Friday. He's passed everything with high honors and if he completes the 8 mile hike and such he'll graduate the week after I think. He reminded me of all this when he called me last night. He did say at any time he can be told he's being deployed.
He's loving this experience and would like to be attached to a Marine unit.
All of your Info was helpful and even though he only has 2.5yrs left on his contract he'd like to work towards getting the pin too. Hope to talk again Ann.

Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on September 5, 2016 at 12:26am: Welcome B'sMom! All graduates do NOT go on to a Marine Corps unit. These days, most corpsmen go through the eight weeks of training that comprise Field Medical Battalion, as part of overall readiness. He will not be able to earn the Fleet Marine Force qualification and receive his pin unless he is assigned to a forward-deployable Marine Corps unit. Here is information about it: What it takes to earn the FMF qualification. Regarding graduation - there is a ceremony and families are welcome to attend. It's definitely not as elaborate as PIR! They receive a certificate and immediately take off for their duty station. Next...you do need to learn all about what a corpsman does, especially if he goes "greenside" (with Marines). "Blueside" refers to corpsmen assigned to ships, hospitals, and clinics. Greenside corpsmen are treasured by their Marines because of their lifesaving efforts everywhere especially in the war zone. I haven't heard of a corpsman that didn't receive orders to their first duty station upon completing A School and prior to attending FMTB - are you sure he doesn't have orders?

Comment by Ann..DevilDocMom on September 4, 2016 at 7:12pm: Hi All Proud Mom's I'm new to this group. My son is in his last week of FMF Corpsman training On West Coast and he's doing extremely well. Can somebody please fill me in on what happens at graduation and never heard of the pinning. How do they earn that? He's not sure what his orders are yet but in the next week what will happen? Are all graduates attached to a marine unit and go on deployment? Thank you all and God Bless all our sons and daughters that they stay safe as things are heating up out there. It's so nerve racking as a mom but he assures me he'll be in the back even in a war zone. So many questions..thinking of all of you and I am B's mom!
