I mailed his first letter also this week! I just hope he gets to either write back or call soon. I just need to hear his voice if its only for 30 seconds!

jduck-- I know how you feel. I got my sons address today!!! I ran right to the post office to mail his letters. Its soooo hard not to talk to him everyday. I miss him so much and still cry when I wonder how he is doing.

My son has been cleaning out his room and putting a bunch of stuff in the attic for safe keeping and some other stuff that he has had for a long time he is bringing it to my mom's house for my little nephew to have. He leaves for boot camp in less then 3 weeks!!! I was sitting in his room talking to him while he was packing some things up and I started to think about, the morning of the day he leaves for boot camp.

I was picturing him up at 4 am getting ready to start his day. He was finishing up brushing his teeth and threw away his tooth brush and then they knocked on his door and told it was time to go. He opened up the door and left. I almost cried. I didn't want to cause I can see and tell that packing the rest of his things was a bit hard on him. Even though he won't admit it. I guess its all part of this life changing experience we all are going throw and will be. Hope all is well your way! Have a wonderful day!!! Take care.

For those of you I thought some US Naval Seacadet info would be helpful.
www.seacadets.org is the website to find a unit in your area. Many of the unit have links so you can go and "Check out" a unit's website. Usually there are pictures and event info that can be helpful. You will also find contact info for these units and sometimes you can schedule a time to come and see what it is all about. Face book has a couple of USNSCC fan sites that allow cadets to chat back and forth. You have to be granted permission to do this though. I hope these help anyone looking into seacadets.

I know it will be all good. I think I will have my daughter look into going into the Sea Cadets to help prepare her. She wants to be a part of the band and so she has enlisted her music teacher to help her out with composing. She has marching skills because of the band so she can only improve in that area, right? Thank you all who contribute to this site, there is some really helpful info here and I do feel better since joining.

I am so proud of all of you Moms, it is not easy and of course we worry and cope with the sudden loneliness...but, now I worry about your 'kids' too! ;p

I too am a single mom of one and even though I had a long time to prepare for this it still hit me hard as well. I also had to move out of our long-time home and lost my long time job all at the same time...not to mention menopause issues...oey vey...but, I created Little Black Book-Daily Food Diary and learning all about building a website and marketing a product has kept me busy while I sit in front of my computer day and night monitoring for a fresh e-mail!!!! Thank God for e-mail!

I am sending my son post cards of home here in southern california and great care packages of things he loves...he even asked for a box of Zataraine's Gumbo Mix...LOL...he says he can boil some water on the ship and put some chicken nuggets in it...LMAO...very creative way of getting 'home' cooking!

ok, I am babbling now...it is late and I was missing him, but, reading your stories has helped A LOT! Thanks girls!~n

Hey, Mandy...my son made it all the way to Chief in the Sea Cadets. I really liked it because he became very familiar with the chain of command, the ranks and the protocol. He also supervised and learned to get his uniform squared away.

One time I was waiting to pick him up on Base and they were learning a march...I was leaning against my car watching and they marched toward me and split off at the last minute...it was cool...they were singing a cadence too!

I guess I am starting to worry...a bit jealous...I know I have lots of time to think of this, my youngest son leaves for BC and than MA 'A' School in Jan. But he and I have always been so very close. Just resently, oh yea he is 21, he decided to move in with his Girlfriend. So I am missing him, I thought we would have lots of time to be all together before he leaves. I asked him last night, "so when you go to BC who will you call to let know you made it?" His reply was " I am not going to jail I can call you both. She is a really nice girl, and I am truly happy for them and extremly proud of him. Who will he send his stuff back to? I guess I have lots of time to talk to him. Will he be able to make to phone calls when he gets to boot camp? Does anyone know?

I was thinking of having my daughter check out the Navy Sea Cadets after her season in Marching Band in High School, which will be at the end of the year. Anyone had their teen do this before joining? How did they like it? did it help them out in adjusting? Why am I so worried? Is there a teen site for teens to chat before going in?
