My son started talking with recruiters about 2 months before he graduated and I made him really think about joining and I also had them come to my house so I could talk with them. He finally decided about 3 weeks before graduation he wanted to join. I didnt think at first he would be ready becasue believe me he was lazy! but he really suprised me going to the DEP meetings every week and to PT with them once a week. He actually would ride with them this summer to talk with other people about joining. He left last Thursday for boot camp and I am so proud and missing him!

Hi everyone, I have one son who is a Seabee in the Navy and my youngest is seriously thinking of joining. My two boys are complete opposites and having just watched Dave go through the whole BC and A school situation I am worried Josh is not totally prepared. Just wanted to introduce myself and I am going to poke around more.

My daughter talked with a recruiter last week and has made the decision to join. I have mixed emotions about this, but I am very proud of her and worried as well. She's only 17 and I am not ready.

So as i'm online Fedex pulled up with "My Box". Many people told me not to open it as it would be to sad. I did open it and actually felt like I got alittle piece of my son back. Many pieces really, his dirty laundry. LOL

Hi everyone, my son left one week ago today. It was so hard to let him go. The first phone call was soooo hard. He sounded so tired and unhappy. The second phone call was much better. He sounded like his old self!!! So when you guys get that first call don't worry too much they are just tired and alittle unsure of their surroundings. I miss him so much but I am so pround of him!!!

well my son has been gone since last Thursday and I really wish I could at least talk to him if only for a minute! I have to swallow really hard and fight back tears when I walk past his room or go in his bathroom and smell his cologne! But Im sure he is fine and I will be so glad when I can talk with him. I think about mothers who have actually lost a child to death and I cannot imagine how they cope. But I am still so proud of his decision and cant wait to hear from him

I am not looking forward to my son leaving! I cried again this morning, I think it's just the fact that he will be gone and I can't help. He's the youngest of 4 (all sisters). I am proud.

calabonte- I also feel the same way and Chris has a while before he goes anywhere. I think it is just the knowing that someday he will be gone?
