My son left yesterday for boot camp - this is harder than I thought it would be. I am so proud of him and the choices he is making and I know that it is my job as his mom to let him go, but it hurts so bad. I too am used to having daily contact with him, and am waiting anxiously for the call that he got to Chicago. We talk all the time - I miss that already. He was able to get on Facebook this afternoon (don't know how) and let me know that his flight was leaving at 5:00. That and he loves me. I'll be waiting up for his call tonight.

We're back at MEPS today. Just heard from my son that he passed his physical. Whohoo!! Waiting on the next step

Yippee! We just got word from the recruiter that our son has been cleared to go to MEPS next Monday! Ok-that worry is over and I'm on to the next! Thank you to everyone for all the postings, it helps immensely!

I know it is. He has never been away from home and I havent ever not been able to at least speak to him on a daily bases but we have to let go sometime. He was excited about going but when he arrived at boot camp and called I asked what he was doing and he said getting yelled at! I heard them in the back ground yelling but he was expecting it.

I sent my son off last Thursday! Now I am trying to not constantly think about what he might be doing and hoping he can call soon! His recruiter said it might be as long as 3 weeks before he can call again. That is going to be an eternity.

I'm still not ready, I only have 2 months left. I'm trying to be a trooper, I'm planning his going away party.

Good for you! I won't ask who finishes with the better time. I am running my second full marathon on the 4th in Portland, Oregon. Of course, for me the term "running" is relative to my limited abilities. My goal is to finish. Your son sounds like someone who will do great things in life.

Yes, we are doing this slowly and with a complete lifestyle change. He has not gained anything back and has learned how to eat and what to eat for a leaner lifestyle. He knows that no matter what happens, this is better for his body. He is determined and knows it will be a lifelong challenge for him. He runs his third half-marathon on October 4th. I run too, so it has been fun doing races together. This will be my 8th half-marathon. We motivate each other.
