Lorraine, the key is once he gets down within the standards he has to maintain his nutrition and fitness lifestyle so he stays in standards throughout the time he is in Delayed Entry and while he is in the Navy. If he shows up to leave for boot camp and he is no longer in standards they will not allow him to go. For Sailors on active duty, three failures in a four year period constitutes grounds for discharge from the Navy. I let you know this because I see outstanding Sailors struggle with this every day. But if he wants it enough he will make it happen. Good Luck!

NRD Seattle, thank you for all the information. It is helpful to read your comments. My son is on a DQ for weight. Football player, lineman, who is strong and has aerobic strength, just measurements are too large for the Navy. He continues to work on the weight loss and inch loss. He has passed everything else at MEPS.

Practice test does not take long. My son finished in less than 30 minutes

NRD,
Thanks so much for help!!! I have one more question, actually 2. How long does the practice ASVAB TAKE? Our appointment is 6pm at night 2 hours away on a school night. If this is going to be long and I think I should reschedule, will that hurt us?

Sonj, That is a great question about the shirt and tie. You are right it is an interview and that is one of the comments I hear from the recruiters...people show up for interviews in shorts and sandals and don't look at it as a job interview but that is exactly what it is. At the very least long pants and a button down shirt...your choice on the tie. It goes a long way to show that he is serious about his future. Another thing to mention is that they will probably have him take a practice ASVAB if he hasn't already taken it. They will put him in a testing room and have him take it on a computer. This gives a good indication of how he will do on the actual exam at MEPS. If his score is low they may have him study for a couple of weeks before taking him for the actual exam.

Thank you. No, no felonies or excessive tickets just one. So, this first meeting will be like an interview. Should he wear a shirt and tie? Yes and good advice, letting my son handle things. I will.

Sonj, No, parking tickets won't hurt him. He just needs to reveal everything. They will do a police record check on him so you don't want to have something come up that he didn't reveal. If a person has a large number of speeding tickets (usually six or more) they will have to receive a waiver which will mean they have to be interviewed by the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer of the recruiting district you are in. The Navy just wants to make sure we are getting people who have the maturity, character and discipline to learn from their mistakes and follow the rules.

I do not think so, as long as they are paid for. I think they look for felonies etc.

NRD,
No, Not too much info. i did go to the Undesignated site . I got some in bits and peices. I needed a pep talk. Thank you soo much for taking the time. I do feel better now. I do understand what you are saying. The recruiter did say something about highschool seniors having a good opportunity at getting a job.
Do parking tickets hurt a persons chances?

Does anyone know if my son will have to retake the ABVAB? His score was not what they want now and we are waiting on a waiver.
