Navy For Moms

My fiance graduates A school in two weeks and just found out last week he's getting stationed in Bremerton, WA... is anyone else out that way? :)

I'm transferring colleges to go with him, and I'm majoring in Social Work...it looks to me that I would have to commute the hour to Seattle to go to school, has anyone else done this? It's so strange because it's a ferry ride away and I don't know exactly how that would even work lol.

Really just looking for people to tak to, advice about where to live, how to go about college...whatever advice anyone can give!!! :)

Thanks for the school recommendation! They don't have my major though, so it won't work. :\ I was looking at the Uni of Washington because the Uni of Seattle is too pricey, but I'm sure commuting would be a huge headache!! I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan so I'm used to heavy traffic but not stand-still traffic like major cities like Seattle... Thanks so much girl!

Try checking out the University of Washington Tacoma.  It is a much better commute and you don't have to deal with Seattle traffic.

Hi Emily,
My husband is also stationed in Bremerton Wa, but we don't live there yet. He's with the Stennis and after A school he was flown out to the ship to complete the deployment. I do plan on moving out there next year to get settled before he comes home. I am also transferring and going to school in Tacoma, it's a bit of a commute but not as far as Seattle. As far as housing we plan on living off base and the two areas that I've been looking into is Silverdale and Port Orchard, I was told from another wife that Bremerton is not the safest at times. Is your husband with the Stennis? If you have any other questions you can always ask =)

Thanks ladies!

He is on the Stennis!! It sounds like we have pretty similar situations.. Is Bremerton mostly just the Base, or is there more of a town around the Base as well? I would love to talk to you more, I just started looking into Washington this past weekend so I'm clueless about all of it. It'd be awesome to know some people when I get there, too!! :)

yes I agree, it's nice to have some one to talk to that understands exactly what your going through. Im really not sure, I haven't been up to Wa but I'm planning a trip with my in laws to get a little familiar with the place but Mike (my husband) loves it out there! I know that Bremerton is its own city, more than just the base, it's a West and East Bremerton if I'm not mistaking. I also wanted to get to know a few ppl before moving out there. But feel free to hit me up at any time! =)

I have another question, for anyone to answer...

Earlier I was looking at areas to live and that made me think of a problem...I have a car, but  my fiance doesn't and I don't think he's planning on getting on anytime soon. So I would have to drive him to base every morning and pick him up at night, I'm assuming? I don't know if there's any kind of transportation....Because then it would make sense to live in Silverdale because the Base is on the way from Silverdale to the Uni of Washington, where I would be commuting to for school...So many things to think about!!!

Desiree, you'll have to let me know what you think of it!! :)

Hi, My SA is stationed in Bremerton and I visited this past weekend. To be honest I wouldn't want to live in Bremerton - it is a small, fairly depressed city with not a whole lot going on. I have heard that Silverdale is fairly nice as is the Bangor base (though more ruralish).  Tacoma is maybe a 30 minute drive. You could take the ferry to seattle. Eventually when I move that is what I will most likely do. Don't base you college decisions on what is closest, but on what is the best fit for you.  Maybe you have a little traffic - maybe you won't. After visiting Seattle a month or so ago I LOVED it! It would be worth a commute, traffic, whatever. For a job I had prior to my current employer I commuted 4 hours total daily into NYC and it was one of the best jobs that I ever had. It provided me with opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise and was great for networking, getting dinner, shopping, etc.

my fiance is on the stennis as well and ill be moving to WA when they are back !! I'm looking into Silverdale/Port Orchard and Seattle as well for living... we need to keep in touch desiree!

we def do Jessie! and we currently live in the same city! =) I accepted your friend request feel free to mesg me any time! so nice to meet you ladies!

Hey Emily! I just saw this discussion.

I know you added me as a friend, but I live in Bremerton and go to school at University of Washington Tacoma. :)

Also, I'm from Ohio so I've definitely heard of where you're from. :)

If you have any questions, feel free to message me. :)
