Group for Mom's of Gunners Mates in A School or on Duty

I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

There had been a change at GL, with no over night Liberty. He will more than likely get off during the day (unless on duty) and need be back by evening. However, change is always a constant, whether it be in military or civilian life, so be prepared what is told today will be different tomorrow. He will let you know at PIR. Just enjoy each moment, and know pride in him is so much more than you can even imagine at this moment!

Yes, there is a long wait and during that time they also have other classes. Kay, where is your daughter now? My daughter had PIR May 21 last year is now stationed aboard the USS Tortuga LSD 46 based in Sasebo, Japan.

My GM daughter had her PIR on 4/2 of last year and was able to spend the full weekend with us before reporting back to the other side of base the following Monday. There is a pretty long wait time until they actually get to GM school.

CheriB, has he gone through Battlestations yet?

CheriB, If PIR is 4/1 and his A school is at GL, he will most likely not move until 4/4 or 4/5.  They will give them the weekend off, unless they are grad and go which means their A school is some place other than Great Lakes.

My son  is on target for Pir 4/1. He is then going to ASchool. his orders say he starts 4/4 and that he is to report 4/2. Can someone help me decipher? Will he move to the other side of GL on Fri 4/1 or Sat 4/2?

Dillons mom-    yes. from what i hear if you are an E3 or below WITH a dependent you are not eligible to go over seas (including HI).

he was on hold for the class to start for less than a week.

Hi CarlyRae- I'm confused on your message, wont be going to japan cause he's only an E3?   I dont think that matters,  my son hasnt gotten his orders yet but he did say that half of his  class will be going to Japan and the class bfr him half of them went also.  he has no dependants and is not E3.  I think he is in the class after my son.  although I didnt think they had one going yet?  mine should be done mid April.

Hi everyone. My daughter finished up her A school at GL on 3/11 and will be grad n go to San Diego that day where she will do her in- processing and then flown to her ship which is on deployment for 7 months. We are both very excited now that her journey really begins. So proud of all who have worked so hard to get to this stage of their journeys.

My son started A school in January.  He said that they were told 60 business days to complete class.  If I figured it right should graduate around the 14th of April!!!!!
