Oh Sue, I love your idea!! I was planning on making a pillowcase this weekend (in between getting ready for thanksgiving and making cookies to send to my son). His DIL is a teacher at Viv's school....plus I run into them all the time at our favorite pizza place....so I can get him to sign it! Thanks!

And if you'd like to come along, be my guest! It won't be til after Thanksgiving anyway. Just dress warm tho, as it's pretty chilly up this way. ;)

I was going to do postage online today, but I couldn't figure out where the flat rate was and I was out of time. For today anyway, it was easier to go to the post office and of course I yakked my head off.

Carolyn, that is very exciting! Take some pillowcases to show her. Very cool. Anything I can do to aid your talk-like come along. ahah. I talk about it so much that people's eys glaze over. Or I have them sewing before we are done.

You should make a pillowcase for the NY and have the resident autograph it. NOw wouldn't that be a cool one?

Just saw our weekly paper and there was an article about the USS New York in it. One of our residents was on the USS New York (BB-34) in World War II and was invited to the commissioning in NY. At 88, he is one of only 300 or so still surviving out of his battleship's 2,000 members. He said it was just an awesome experience to be there and if he was a little younger, he would serve again.

Viv came home today and said her teacher wants me to come in to talk to the class about Heads at Ease. I'll let you know how it goes! lol

Sue, We have a rural mail carrier and one day when he was delivering a flat rate box, I commented that I had one to mail while I was going to be out of town (the Crommelin mailing). I told him that the neighbors were going to mail it but I wanted to have postage paid for them so they could hopefully just give it to him. He told me that I could always call for pick up. Then he would drive to the house to pick it up directly. I've not done that yet. My problem is my reluctance to use the credit card on line. I am slowly learning how to do that.

Tuesday when at swimming class a member warned me that my suit was very thin on backside. So this morning I skipped swimming and order a suit on line. We met as a group for lunch and she said that was a wise decision. So I'm getting there.

Great true story, Carolyn. Your daughter should be our mascot!

SUE-girl. My boxes don't fit in the mailbox...I either leave it next to it or listen for the mailman and go out and give it to him. You can also just drop it in a big US mail box.
When custonms forms are required, you can still do it on-line and save, BUT you must send HUSBAND to post office with box and form. (hee-hee).

Oh, dear, don't ask me such hard questions, Sue. You save....45 to 85 cents per box BUT you don't need to waste time at the post office (gas too) AND you get FREE notice of delivery, which costs money at the p.o.

Anyone else's help here is appreciated.

Barbara, I didn't see anything on Molly's page about 18 soldiers. Please email me the information. I am currently working on the NY, and 100 land warriors (Army) that we are mailing to by early next week, plus 70 seabee stockings. So if you could email me the information, I'll see what we can do in December

Oh Carolyn, this makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Did you ask for the teacher's email and forward the Heads at Ease letter to her?
Tell Viv THANK YOU! I just love it. and to mention RJA too. And that BELIEVE is our theme song? They are up in Watertown, NY this week-not sure where that is.

And Carolyn, do you have a pillowcase on the NY? If not, there is still time to make at least one and get it to Ally, our wonderful gatherer.

Just wanted to share a story with you..... My daughter's social studies class has been learning about 9/11 and that the steel from the towers was used in building the USS New York. Then they had to write a short essay on it. Not only does my daughter write about the commissioning of the ship but she also adds that there's this group called Heads at Ease that's sending everyone on the ship a pillowcase! Of course her teacher thought she was making it up but Viv went on to explain all about this group. I was so proud of her! From the mouths of babes....
Sue, she even mentioned RJA! Lol!
