I have approximately 500 cards coming and I will be able to send out about 200 stockings. There have also been some donations of small games, dvds, and just stuff that I will send out when I get everything. This can go to the general group, I guess.

I'll take Reactor, or this can just be 350 goodie bags in lieu of stockings, but stuffed full like stockings. I'd rather put the monies into the gift itself and into getting them where they need to go than into the stockings. This way then we can cover more sailors, and get closer to reaching the 5,000 and making sure that everyone gets something. Do you ladies realize that there are some people that have never received anything for Christmas, and not because they don't celebrate it -- they just didn't get anything. That's why I suggested the goodie bags and they can be picked up at various places by you and save on the postage/shipping charges as well. (Wal-Mart, Party City, Target, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree, Dollar General and more). Also, I know that I don't have to do this. I don't even have a kid on this ship on in this fleet. I am doing this because I want to and because I have a group of people that want to do this. My sailor is on another ship in another fleet. :)

Thank you Laura, could you posty your suggestion in the SUGGESTIONS discussion. Thanks.

Anyone is free to send what they choose as long as every sailor on the ship receives something.

Pat: I would, but it states that the Ideas and Suggestions Discussion is Closed. So, I couldn't. :(

OH, well, that's life.

Cards are the least thing to worry about. Those you will end up with more than you realize. It's the actual "gifts" that need to be the focus for now to make sure that everyone is covered and no one is left out.

Laura, I'm sorry I forgot I did that but I just re-opened the discussion especially for you :o) Some people can't afford to send anything but cards. I'm trying my best to get the ship covered but I can't force anyone to be involved if they choose not to.

Oh, I understand that. It just seemed like everyone was so worried about not having enough cards to go around and what you will find is that you will probably end up with enough for 2 - 3 each by the time the smoke clears and all is said and done with cards and pics drawn by kids. Thats the easy part. The hard part is making sure you've got a little something for everyone. The dollar stores and party supply stores have the cello goodie/gift bags usually in groups of 25 - 50, but sometimes if you look, in groups of 100 for $1 - $3 -- depending on where you are at -- don't leave out Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge Pottery, Michael's, Big Lot's and other places like that. Check your party supply areas of the stores -- holiday themed areas. This stuff is out already. We're down to one car and hubby's store is down to 2 mgrs, due to a "new arrival" -- beautiful baby boy -- but his work schedule is crazy, so it makes it hard to get anywhere on this end & town with the good stores is -- well 25 - 50 miles away, so it's kinda a long walk. :) That's all I was really trying to say. Don't sweat the small stuff, but make sure everyone is covered. :)

I will check with my son in law. New to the family and not use to saying that. He works for Party Pro here. They are on the internet and see what kind of pricing we are looking at. How many are we talking about. Are we doing only christmas but other december holidays also. Not opening a can of worms only asking. Sally

Sally, we are only doing this for Christmas. When we found out their deployment had been extended we thought it would be nice to send them some Navy Mom love for Christmas.

Thanks Marilyn, I have the ship broken down by dept's above. If you want you can pick a dept that's open (there are still plenty). I have been posting names next to those dept's that are already taken care of.
