Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate. When you are finished, you can send them to:

Knit for the Navy
PO Box 539
Madras, OR 97741

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Hey ladies-
I have been off the grid, visiting my daughter-my sailor's sister-and I have a few more projects to finish before I can start an afghan but I am way excited to contribute. On a note for those new needlers-have you checked out your local library for a group or help? Our library has 2 needle groups (drop-in but very supportive of each other) plus lots of books and DVD's on the how-to's. If your library doesn't have a group, feel free to suggest they start one-or if they have a room where you can start one. Speaking as a librarian, we are always looking for free programming that meets a local need.
Good luck tp all those heading out to sea. My son is in nuke training in Charleston so I have a while to knit an afghan for his rack-thank goodness.
So fair winds and followinf seas to all your LO's.

Hi!!! Well how 'bout those Saints!!! So happy they won...not "my" team but I really feel like they deserve the win. Did anyone watch the game? I so totally could not knit and watch that game. Tax time is a bummer Debbie but hopefully it will go quickly and smoothly for you. Brittney, hang in there...Michael will do good in the Navy and you are tough girl...you can do it. We are all here to support you. As far as Michael leaving and your knitting. If you have any problems understanding the instructions in your book, go to youtube. There are tons of knitting videos there. Hi Karen...so nice to have you join us! Congrats on the up coming PIR. It is awesome if you get to go see it. (FYI, bring lots of tissues...I cried a river watching my son...lol) Well Sara, honestly I have tried to keep up with the KAL but I am behind. I am working on the clue# 8 blocks. They are going to post the boarder this Wed. The whole contest ends on March the 12th (I think). The last 2 clues are a cable pattern. They are pretty involved but I am actually doing them correctly and they are coming out really cool. I can't believe how much I have learned from the KAL. It has been alot of fun. I HIGHLY recommmed doing one if you are ever inspired to try it. I didn't really post a lot of comments but I really looked forward to reading the comments everyday. Other people's mistakes help me to avoid them or fix my own. Bernat is going to post the clues for the afghan as 1 pdf file if you missed any. I have already started gathering materials and patterns for the next project. BAD ME, Naughty, bad me...I get so excited I get a head of myself and that is how I get too many UFOs laying around...LOL. I promised this year I would be better about that...oh well...why make resolutions if you don't break them...hahahaha...

Hi Brittney - when i first started learning to knit (last year) i got a CD that i could play in my computer. I had books too but I was having a hard time with figuring out the instructions. Once i got the hang of it i was "hooked" now i knit all the time. I love to make toys. they have really improved on my skills and how to read the patterns. Good luck.
I really should start on the knit along clues i have. :)
Terri how's your KAL coming?
