Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate. When you are finished, you can send them to:

Knit for the Navy
PO Box 539
Madras, OR 97741

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Confession time...again...lol! I am SO far behind in the Bernat KAL. After finishing, I thought, the 1st set of blocks, I discovered a big mistake in them and decided to start them over. No problem right? Well, they just released the 3rd clue to the afghan and not only do I need to redo the 1st but aen't finished the 2nd clue blocks. Hahahaa...thank God I can work on this at work and that we have vacation coming up. Maybe I can get caught up before the 4th clue comes out...I think that is optimistic but hey...why not. :) Is there anyone else who is doing this KAL? It's a really fun project. Very portable. I like the way the yarn feels too. The finished afghan is going to be soft and cozy I think.

If any of you are shipping scarfs to me, could you please send them as soon as possible. I will be away the week of Thanksgiving and now I will need to travel the following week. My son's sub is getting back and so I need to mail the scarfs off early. Thanks every one

Hi All. Hey Debbie, I think I can say for all of us that we are praying for a speedy recovery for you. Well after the LONG (5 day long) weekend I can honestly say I that I got absolutely nothing productive done. Well except for I started packing boxes for the Eisenhower. So far I have 23 blankets for the IKE. I am hoping to save some shipping cost and send some of the boxes back to Norfolk with my son when he comes to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday. Yes, paying the extra "baggage" fee for the boxes to fly on the airplane is cheaper than the postage. Plus we have the added guarantee that they will arrive on the ship via one of it's own sailors. Not to bad I thought. I hope my son will agree...lol.

Debbie,
Wow no work until after the new year? that's rough. Well you'll have plenty of time to knit! Just make sure that you do it in between pain medication doses! I hope that you are healing fast and the pain isn't too bad. Hugs to you! Cath

Hi everyone, knitting on pain meds did not work out so good lol. But i am now working hard on getting somthing done. I have one finished and will try and get another one done by next week so I can get 2 out asap. Thsi surgery has had me down longer then I thought it would. The Doc's wont let me go back to work until after the first of the year.
I am glad to see that everyone here is doing well.

Hi Everyone! How is everyone doing? Wow, what a busy weekend! No, I didn't get 1 stitch of knitting done either. I wanted to let Lyn know that I received her box in the mail last week. Sorry I didn't post that earlier. I am hoping that things will clam down at my house but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. My son, Paul is going to get to come home for Thanksgiving. Yay!!! I am so excited. I haven't gotten to see him since last year before he went out on deployment with the IKE. BTW, that is the ship we are working on now. It is an aircraft carrier with approx. 5000 sailors onboard. The boxes of afghans for the ship needs to be mailed out the beginning of Dec. because of the holiday season and the holiday leave periods. Get your blankets in the mail to me ASAP please so we can get them to the ship. We can make a lot of sailors really happy this holiday.
