Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate. When you are finished, you can send them to:

Knit for the Navy
PO Box 539
Madras, OR 97741

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Terri, Susanne's Garden is about a flower shop and in the Blossom street Series I recommended.. But what is a Corgi if I might be so bold to ask. I have never read the books you mentioned. Also the author of blossom Street series also has a series about cooking. BAck to knitting as the boys are home and hubby wants his computer talk soon..

Hi Everybody, I just wamted to let you all know that Kamile 57 is actually me, Anita Lopez. I sure hope I didn't confuse anyone. But in the guidelines, it saids not to use full names, especially if your NAvy loved one has the same last name, as to protect them. Kamile is actually a combination of my initials to create a word. It was also the name of my character I had for EQ2. Yes, Terri, I used to play Eq2 So you can call me either Anita or KAmile. I just wanted to clear up any confusion, so you knew who you are talking to since there is another Anita somewhere on N4m's Everybody have a great day..

KAmile aka Anita

Hi there . . . I commented in "The sizes' discussion so it would move back into view . . .
The bunks (racks) on the ships are very narrow, so that needs to be taken into consideration when you're looking at sizes . . .
MommsyT . . . any and ALL blankets are appreciated . . . how sweet of your daughter:)! She can also include a note with her blankets . . . the sailors would love to get mail too:)!

GIANT HUGS:)!

Hello everyone! MommsyT here. My daughter Bryce asked me to ask you ladies ifyou would allow her to also make a blanket. She said since she is going to be a Navy sister she wanted to get involved. She is 13 years old and has made several fleece blankets for friends.

Terri, are there any specifics on the afghans? Or can they be any color, even pink for the girls? And you suggest twin bed size? I am going to get some yarn and crochet thread this weekend to start some of my projects and was just wondering... While I am crocheting my sailor blanket I will also be crocheting a baby blanket for one of my nieces, found out she is having a girl... Anyway that is what made me think about our young ladies in the Navy and if they may want a danty colored blanket... I'm being silly, I'm sure but hey you never know... Any suggestions or input on that... What sailors are we sending them to? Well, I hope everyone has a blessed day and everything goes great for all...

Hi all, I'm just finishing my packing. I'm going down to spend the 4th with my son in Norfolk. He's closing on his first home tomorrow, so we'll be helping him move. But don't worry, I'm taking my knitting with me. Hope everyone has a great 4th of July.

Terri.. have you read the Rita Mae Brown "Sneaky Pie Brown" mysteries? They have a Corgi as one of the main characters. Of course, if it has a Corgi, I have to read it. For those of you who love to read, please check out Shelfari.com and bookcrossing.com. Both are wonderful sites, especially bookcrossing. It's the world's largest free library where members set free books they no longer want and tell where they are. Then you can go get it and read it, then set it free again. It's really fun. I have a nice, easy strip afghan pattern. I'll dig it out and post it here if anyone is interested. My aunt made these many years ago and I lost the pattern, and amazingly found it again on line somewhere.
