Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate. When you are finished, you can send them to:

Knit for the Navy
PO Box 539
Madras, OR 97741

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Just an introduction. I'm a "many disciplines" crafter. I've just learned one stitch of crochet, but I'm not too keen in getting more advanced than that. My boyfriend is actually more progressed in knitting than I am. I refuse to progress further than a "knitting for meditation" skill level. I make scarves and bags, but nothing that has a chance to go severely wrong, mostly avoiding things that need to end up in a certain size range or where I can't pass off accidental purl rows as part of the charm.

I'm also into chainmaile, beading, tatting, wire jewelry, embroidery, etc.

Hi MommsyT welcome
Hi Terri, I have been meaning to ask you have you gotten any checks from our shopping mall? I have used it several times and want to make sure we are getting our shair.
I will be sending out 4 blankets by the end of this week. Finaly

Anita, I haven't joined her reader's club, but I plan on it in the future. I enjoy her writing.

Lyn Love.. I am so glad you looked into my suggestion. I just finished the Shop on Blossom Street. I Returned that one and got out "BAck to Blossom Street, Susannez Garden and another I can't remember. I am almost done with Back on Blossom Street. They are really great. Did you also sign up for her reader's club. Two other books to read are The Knitting Circle by Anne Nobles ( She is mentioned in the front of one of the books as an inspiration) also the Friday Night Knitting Circle. Be careful, not only are the patterns awesome, but you will want to run to the library to pick up the next book. I am waiting for Summer on Blossom Street to come back to the library. There are a bunch of us reading that series and we are fighting for a copy.

Joyce that is so cool, I was just told about Reavelry.com tonight at work. One of the girls said I should post somthing about oir group on it. Does that sound like a good idea? I also am working on the girls at work to make us a few afghan and mabye some yarn. Ha ha ha and all I have to do is teach them a few new stitches.

A while ago some one mentioned a book called The Good Yarn or The Shoppe on Blossom Street. I was looking for something to read so I checked out these two books. I'd like to say thanks for the suggestion and the knitting patterns in the front of the books are really nice.
