Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate. When you are finished, you can send them to:

Knit for the Navy
PO Box 539
Madras, OR 97741

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

So it was a crazy weekend...Had to help the SIL and family move into their new home. Kinda missed Halloween but still had a good time. So I am already behing in the KAL... I hope that the next clue is an easy knit so I can get caught up. Been working on 3 projects at once...lol. That's true multitasking for you. I am very lucky that I can knit while I am at work. I hope everyone is working hard on blankets for the IKE. We need to send those out at the beginning of Dec. That is coming up soon. Ok, so I will quit "yacking" on here and get to work on my afghan. Hope everyone is healthy and happy...

The cables on the patchwork sampler afghan (psa...I am tired of typing that all out...lol) are small. There are only 4 stitches across the cable. I am going to put a link up in the discussions on how you can do those cables without a cable needle. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to. They say it helps the knitting go faster to do it without the needle and it is less cumbersome. We will see. :)

i am going to start mine this weekend.I hope :) so i can maybe keep up LOL
i am crocheting a shawl right now for my mom-in-law and i need to be sure to have it done in time to mail off to MN. but it;s a easy peasy pattern that just repeats so you can set it down and know right where you left off.

Hey Sara...I started my squares. When I did my gauge swatch I found out that I knit VERY tightly. When using the "called" for needles, size 8, my swatch wasn't even close to 4" wide. I went up to a size 10 but I didn't like the looseness of the swatch. I think I might drop down to a 9 and add extra stitches to the pattern to get the required size but keep the look I want. How are you doing on it so far? I have learned through the blog to knit all the same pieces at once to save some time. I am going to give that a try. I feel like I am so far behind. I am glad that the clues are every other week. With winter coming I am sure we both will get a project or 2 done...right??? :)
