Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

We are an extension of the group DEPPERS....in but not yet- see the link above.

If you haven't been there, go there now....There is a ton of information that you will need and are probably dying for....like Boot Camp videos! :)

So if you have general information that will be helpful for all new Moms, leave it in the DEPPER group, but if you have Oct ship out, or other, issues, need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About a week after they arrive at BC, you will receive a form letter, with their Ship# and DIV # (address) on it. Check it against the ones here: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp Then, watch for your PIR (Pass in Review-i,e, Graduation) date to be posted here: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

That IS the official date for your Recruit's Training Group to PIR, HOWEVER things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets. Wait until it's posted to do so, and don't worry, you will still have plenty of time to get your traveling ducks in a row! =) Check here for reviews and info re: hotels, PIR, travel etc: http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/categories/pirpass-in-review/listForCategory

Next stop, Boot Camp Moms Group:http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms
That is where and when permanent Groups for your PIR date and Divisions will, or should, be formed.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

GennyMac, we have the same perspective as you and your husband.  We just wanted our son to have a few more diverse experiences before enlisting, but it just was not to be.  Somehow, I almost think that he is looking forward to the structure and clarity about what he needs to do to succeed.  I try to keep in mind all the thousands who have had successful and satisfying Naval careers before him, but it's hard!  My emotions want to overrule my intellect on this one!

It is so hard to try and get them to wait when they are so fired up to move forward with their lives.  We've had the same thing - my husband and I both want our son to wait one year, then go into the service.  He is still so young, and we'd like for him to have some more world experience, job, etc before going in - but he did not want to wait, so we didn't push it.  He may wish he had, but this is is life and his decision.  So we support him.............

Genny, Ben is really hoping to get changed back to a sub.  He says that if he doesn't, he can always request a change after he has been in long enough.  He was disappointed, but said that at least he is still in the Navy and that is the ultimate goal.  I will be sad to see him leave, but it does my heart good to see him so passionate about something.

Sharri - My husband was a Navy Chief in Sub service.  He recently retired (25 yrs) and he loved all of his time on the sub service.  My given son  (step) ships out Oct 1.  We are so excited for him !

My son just found out last week that he is leaving October 8.  He was originally scheduled to leave July 1 and was going to be on a sub.  Way back when, he asked to be changed to a ship if an opening came up but later decided that he wanted the sub so he asked for that request to be rescinded.  Somewhere along the line the request went through anyway and he was changed.  He isn't happy about it since he had his heart set on leaving in July.  I'm not disappointed about having him for a few more months though!

Hello -

My son has a ship date of 10/02/13.  He was originally going to leave in May, then got accepted to the Nuke program, so it's been pushed back to October.  Thankful for the extra time with him.  I know I'm going to be missing him as soon as he leaves.  Our daughter is going out of state for college in August, so it's a double whammy.  Ugh -- glad I found this site to help us all!!!

Recruit Man-Ronny has finally been declared the winner.  https://www.facebook.com/GoldToe?sk=app_326649834116987&app_dat....  Thanks for all who voted and a special thanks to Ronny for all he does for the recruits.

10/22/13 is the date given by the recruiter for ship date... reading all I can on how to prepare for that day. I know we have a few months, but it will go so fast, especially since my son graduates high school in May!

Thank you to everyone who voted for Recruit Man-Ronny.  When voting closed he was ahead, so I hope that when they declare the winner that it is him.  Ronny does a lot for our recruits by providing free phone cards through http://callsforrecruits.org/. While you're thinking about it, if you are able, please make a donation at http://callsforrecruits.org/ to help with the cost of the cards.
