Thanks Steph, I think we have quite a few more people near you. It may take a few days for them all to respond.
I just copied and pasted this from the other Baton Rouge discussion so it is all in one place.

Hey Danielle, I live in Baton Rouge. My son has been in the Navy for 10 years and stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. I lived in Charleston, SC very close to Goose Creek. I loved it there. Few years back, Charleston had a big Navy base there.

Hey Steph, We visited Chase back in September and stayed in Charleston. We really enjoyed it and it reminds me alot of New Orleans. We plan to go back in July when he graduates from power school. We had to cut our trip short in Sept. due to Gustav!! What type of job does your son have and is he on a sub or a carrier? Also, where do you live? We live in Lake at White Oak. Talk to you soon, Danielle
I'm from Baton Rouge but live in Prairieville. My son Josh W. is PIR 4/10/09. After graduation he will be going to Pensecola for A school as an E1? in IT School. We are very proud of Josh. He is in DIV 152 in Great Lakes and has been there since 2/11/09. Looking forward to seeing him at graduation in his uniform. We all miss him and can't wait to see him!
So glad you found us. You won't believe the change in him at graduation. I can't believe what the Navy can do in 8 weeks. There is also an IT group and Pensacola group. So learn what you can.
Hi Terri, Good luck at your son's PIR this week. It will be the proudest moment in your life. My son Chase's PIR was 6/10/08 and we were definitely proud of our new sailor. He is now in Goose Creek at NUKE school and is doing great. Take care if you ever want to try and plan a get together, let me know. Good luck!
I'm from Baton Rouge as well.....Danielle
I live in Zachary, LA
Hi Lynn Dear:

I live in Baton Rouge but would be willing to go to Lafayette or NO to meet up with others.

Hi Celeste - I'm Suzanne. I live in Lafayette but would be willing to go to BR to meet up with others. I'm in BR alot. My daughter goes to school there and I'm part of a Pet Touch Therapy group that visits nursing homes with our dogs every other weekend.
Hi my name is Tracey Ramirez, my son Victor Keegan Gallagher just left from boot camp on Thursday. He is 19, my oldest of two, my daughter, Kendall is 15. We live in Plaquemine, Louisiana, and I am so glad to find other moms in my area who understand. I can't wait to meet you all.
Hi everyone. Well, I'm the new one to this site. My son enlisted in Metairie and is waiting for Boot Camp. He's slated to leave in April, 2010 followed up with A school in Advanced Electronics in Great Lakes. Please be patient -- I don't really know all of the abbreviations yet. I'd love to hear from you - I don't know what to expect in the upcoming months. Will I be able to say goodbye as he leaves for Boot Camp or do the goodbyes need to be said the day before departure? Is he supposed to take anything with him when he leaves for Boot Camp? i.e. underwear, t-shirts, socks, toiletries, etc... I've read conflicting stories. I've read about THE BOX. I've read about taking civi clothes to PIR. How many pair? Is he allowed to keep them during school? What about his laptop? His cell phone? His XBox? Do I bring all of that with me when I go for PIR? I know it's really in the future and I have a lot of time, but I was just curious.
