Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

That is so sweet of you Lee's Mom. My son will be deployed next month to Bahrain for 2 years. There are 7 of them from his class all going together. I hope we can all be as supportive of them as you have been for your son and his squadron. I am still thinking about how long 2 years will be :D

My MA just shipped out this morning with his squadron for the Middle East. He called, which I am so thankful for. Every time he deploys, as therapy I crochet scarves for him and his unit. There are only 2 MAs in the squadron so I kind of lucked out! Last time I had about 10 to do. I plan to applique his squadron's icon, plus their names. This is what I do to feel 'connected' to him.

Hi Donna #2, phase up is when they get a certain amount of training completed and they are allowed to leave base and do things on their own. Tell Eric not to do anything he isn't supposed to do. When Colin phased up and went off base, there were a few of the guys who went out drinking and showed up to muster drunk. The punishment for the guys who did it was aweful but they punish everyone for not making sure that all were doing the right thing. They have to watch out for each other and keep everyone in line. It doesn't seem fair but if you think about it, it makes sense that they have to be able to control the "bad" ones. Colin sent a list of the clothes he wanted sent and like Ronda said, they didn't fit him anymore and I don't know what he did with them. The underware was a big thing and he wanted all them sent. I think the homeless shelter gets a lot of stuff when the boys leave A school. I'm glad to have you here. We have Moms that are new like you and some that have been MA Moms for years.

Nice to meet you Ronda, Lynn and Linda, thanks so much for the info it all helps so much and is greatly appreciated. I didn't realize there was another group?! It will be so nice to be able to e'mail my son, I can't wait.
Take care and much thanks again

Even if you use the flat rate boxes, if you send anything of value, be sure to insure it in case something happens. We've used them a lot to ship things to her all over the world and have never had any problems. However, I still don't want to take any chances either.

Jessica, my son will graduate this Friday, and he said they have really had a problem with ants getting into anything sweet. They can buy just about anything they want or need on base, if your hubby like to read certain magazines you might want to send him some reading material. The main thing is the cell phone and laptop so they can connect with family and friends. That's what we sent first. Use the flat rate boxes and ship thre day priority, very affordable and always arrived in the three days. At some point you will need to send in his original birth certificate for a passport or send his ppassport to him if he already has one :D

You may also want to join the San Antonio MA's group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/sanantoniomasatthu since that will give you a better idea of what goes on down there although we talk about it a lot on this group as well.

Welcome Jessica and Donna #2 (Eirc's Mom), your sailors will have to Phase up to be able to go off base and to wear civilian clothes. Go ahead and send a set or so of civilian clothes so your sailor will have them when the time comes. In my son's first care package sent as soon as he gave me the address, he requested underwear (I bought a package of new ones of the type he prefers.), cell phone, and snacks that could be fixed quickly in the room or in a microwave--Ramon noodles in the cup, beef jerky, cookies... (This is also a good time to send baby shampoo for the OC spray, which is often the first week and a pair of lounging/PJ pants and flip flops if your sailor wears those.) In the second box sent at the end of the first week or beginning of the second week, I sent a couple of his T-shirts, jeans, and a belt. (His shape had changed after Boot Camp and so he ended up buying jeans in SA. I don't remember what he did with the ones I sent.) Be sure to use the Flat Rate Boxes from the Post Office and send them regular Priority Mail. Things don't usually get to them any faster even if you overnight it. You can pretty much send anything, but remember, they have to take it with them when they leave or be able to consume it while they are there.
