Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Has a week been added? It has been 7 weeks. My son started Oct. 20 and his pinning was Dec. 4--it was originally to have been Dec. 5, but there was a change of command on the 5th, so it was moved up a day. It seemed to me that the big events happened in the odd numbered weeks: Week 1-OC Spray (have baby shampoo ahead of that), Week 3-Orders to first duty station (there are several tests ahead of this and the order of picking orders is sometimes determined based on the sailor's ranking on the tests to this point), Week 5-Block 5 (a week of self-paced tests that they must pass to continue), and Week 7-Pinning. I know there other high points like weapons training and the situational trainings, but they don't seem to be so stressful.

Welcome Lee's Mom, it is always nice to meet and talk to another Navy Mom. We are all Sisters, connected with the Navy and our Sailors. So glad that you joined us in our journey :D

Donna, A school lasts for 8 weeks, just like BC. BUT, and there is always a BUT, they have some major tests that they have to pass, week 6 is what they call their Hell week, in BC...week 5 is their Hell week. They will have 6 what they call CBT's that week, (compt. based tests) all done in Modules with alot of reading. You take the test and if you do not pass you go to a review on the test, if you retake the test and DO NOT pass then, your Sailor will be delayed a week. My son's class lost 3 during CBT's to be delayed. If you are delayed, then your Sailors orders will or might change. So there can be delays here and there for different things.

Hi, ya'll. I'm new, but my son ha been in the Navy for aout 9 years, and 4 as an MA. I still cry when I see him, about twice a year. I am proud of him. He leaves shortly for mid east. At his graduation from BC, I cried. And I cried all the way home, about 10 hours. I say many, many prayers for him and for all our service folks.
I want to thank each of you for raising fine men and women who want to serve this great nation.

Welcome Donna--I didn't find this group until my daughter was about 4 days from completing A school for MAA on July 10. I wish I would have found this one when she started back in May! She thought she would go to TX for MAA school up until about 2 weeks from PIR, then she found out she was going to VA. She is a reservist and it appears those in the reserves go to VA instead of TX. This site was of great help to me as a boot camp mom though. I learned mega from the moms on this site.

Well said, Lynn! Donna, you'll get thru! Be proud of him. Plan an Anchor's Aweigh party for him, go on one more vacation, hug him over and over!
Once you hear from him at boot camp, it all turns around! You are in for a HUGE adventure! Your son, too! Enjoy the ride!

Donna, don't worry about the tears. It gets some what easier but we ALL still cry and have times when we feel down. It's okay, we will be here to support you. It's like and an emotional roller coaster from H***, but luckily we have all made it with the help of family, friends, and fellow Navy Mom Sisters. .I think we have all went thru, highs, lows, excitment, anxiety, worry, etc.......but thru it all we remain strong and support one another the best that we can. You are in good hands, enjoy the rest of your time with you soon to be Sailor and take lots of pictures. :D
