As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Military. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a ServiceMember that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.
We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Military.
Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.
Will I get a thank you from the Troops that get my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.
Our Troops are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden our Troops, they are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that "Adoptee".
However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the "Adoptee" which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.
Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.
For information/Questions here are some email address and other "stuff" to help everyone along the way!

Comment by Proud Navy/NYPD Mom (Donna) 8 hours ago Congratulations Nancy! You must be so happy and proud of your sailor, as well you should be. :)
I can't wait to see pics of our own Miss Pat as Grand Marshall and representing all of us too. You go, girl!!!
I sent a message to my son asking him about The Jane Hotel. He told me that there are parts of Manhattan's West Village that we definitely should not be in! It wouldn't be safe for us especially not being familiar with the area, we could end up wandering into a dangerous neighborhood. He's never heard of the hotel personally, but he will ask a few of the cops who are regularly in Manhattan and find out about the area for us. It may take him a few weeks to get the info for us, but he promised to find out and as soon as I hear from him I will let you all know what the NYPD thinks about "tourists" in that area.
Comment by nancy (ian's mom & tanya's mil) 17 hours ago I am so proud of my son. In under 4 year he is now an E5! He was told this morning that he has been advanced to an FC2. PO 2nd class. One more stripe on his shoulder and in October a stripe on his sleeve for his first 4 years. I am just beaming now!
Comment by Yankee's Mom 20 hours ago Pat: that is awesome! thank you for all you do!!! Do you have your parade wave down?
Comment by Proud Navy/NYPD Mom (Donna) 20 hours ago Nancy, I think that I will likely stay with my son and DIL and, of course, the little one. It will be more convenient for him as he said he would take me in to the City right to the ship on one of the tour days.
Maybe we should be thinking about a day and time and then plan to meet on the pier or some place close? I know you all have your sailors too so we will make quite a crowd won't we. Do we wear our bright pink MAS shirts so we can find each other? Kinda like a school trip for Moms? hahahahaha Or does that embarress our children too much!?
Comment by nancy (ian's mom & tanya's mil) yesterday Proud, we are staying at LaQuinta, got a nice discount thru Gary's work. We looked at loads of them online before deciding. So many have restrictions and horrible cancellation policies. I know some were looking at the Holiday Inn right there in Manhattan as well. I do know the prices jumped by about $50 a night in a matter of a weeks time so glad we got our flight/room taken care of.
@Yankee's Mom, Not a member but work very closely with a VFW post in western suburbs of Chicago. They are VERY supportive of MAS. As a matter of fact, I have been asked to be the Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade, representing all of you "Molly Moms"!!! ISN'T THAT AMAZING?????
Comment by Yankee's Mom yesterday Carol: That is awesome! Thank you!!! I joined our local auxiliary under my dad, a WWII Veteran....and now I have an Iraqi War Veteran!!!
Comment by carols_kitchen yesterday Not a member, but work very closely with our VFW. I meet with the commander on a regular basis as we see what else we can do for our troops and vets in our community.
Comment by Yankee's Mom yesterday Wondering if any you Mom's are members of your local VFW Auxiliary? I am President of our local Auxiliary here in Fort Payne. There are great benefits and a voice in Washington for our Veterans!!!
Comment by carols_kitchen on Wednesday Spent the day in my original (old) blue MAS shirt. Went out to lunch, and then we went to the sailors' house. Max mowed, weeded & feeded, trimmed and picked up sticks. I cleaned the oven, microwave, bathroom and kitchen floors, and washed uniforms and other laundry. When the guys all get off duty, they still have leftovers in the refrigerator and a "fabreezed" house. 3 bachelors in one place---needless to say it needed a parents' love.
