Navy For Moms

Molly had the GREAT idea to send some N4M love to some of our military that are "hurting".
I am going to say that July 12 is the "birthday" of this endeavor. July 13 it got named!!
"M.A.S. Special Hugs" - M.A.S. - for Molly's Adopt a Sailor!!!

From Molly: Hey Moms ---- we are having some wounded guys coming our way. Would you like to make a thread and those who would like to send a card or messages to our wounded ones.

Here is what we want to do. If you see a thread of someone that needs some cards or letters, direct us to them!! We will get in contact with them and find out how they want the cards and letters sent.
There are three possibilities:
(1) They don't mind having their name and addresses posted in this discussion,
(2) They get me the name and address and I'll PM everyone interested after hearing their story or
(3) They give me the name and address and everyone will have to mail their cards to me and I'll forward them on to the "hurting".
In that case, here is my name and address: (sure, come see me anytime!!)
Brenda Bourque
2319 Avenue F
Nederland, TX 77627

OK - Mom's let's get this ball on the roll!!

I am going to keep these names in one place - so people don't have to read through hundreds of pages to find them.
Here they are so far. If you want to know more, go find the stories - but I warn you - get a couple boxes of Kleenex first!!!

Barbara, I do believe Ross has some "down" times because his dad alluded to them. Overall, however, I think he is a very positive person. His family is a tremendous support group and his focus appears to be more on what he can do rather than what he can't do. Reality will really set in when he leaves the VA and his dad returns home. I do recommend joining his Caringbridge site. He is really an inspiration.

Brenda,
Thanks for the update.

Indeed Ross is a glass half full person! He does have down times, just keeps them private. He is so amazed by the support from so many that he has never met. He wishes every guy and gal in the hospital had this kind of support. He does share our cards with the other guys in the spinal cord injury unit... so our cards are working overtime! Right now they are saying that Ross will remain there through Sept into October. The plan is for him to return to South Dakota at that time... then school somewhere... he has lots of things to decide yet...

Last week I took him a Dairy Queen blizzard. Had been one of the few things he requested... He enjoyed every bite of it! I am amazed at how great the rehab unit is. They work on every aspect of life for the patient. How to dress, care for themself, get around, fitness, you name it... Independence is the name of the game. Ross has really thrown himself in for the challenge!

When sending a card to Ross, send an extra along to be shared with the other guys in the spinal cord unit. I'm sure we can send enough to support them all.

Hi Brenda!

This was left on the Cali page. Thought it might be right for this group if you have not already seen it.

Comment by Darsete 1 day ago Delete Comment Good morning, last week a young corpsman who works with my son down in 29 Palms was injuried in a very serious car accident on his way back from the Phoenix area. He is now in the Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition with injuries to his C 5 and C 6 area. His name is Chris, but everyone calls him Kujo. He was my sons roommate on their last deplaoyment. Kujo will finally be having surgery today to place his head in the halo. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. If you are a member of facebook you can go to the following link and view the families updates: http://www.facebook.com/GetWellKujo Thanks for your thoughts and prayers

Molly, you are right - I have been here - was just going to "talk" with you!!

This is the third "request" we have with no address!! Do we want to go ahead and post them without addresses or wait until we get a place to send the cards? The other one has been "hanging" since July 15, I got a card today for him - and even I don't know where to send it!!!

Reply to This

Good question ------ maybe a mention of them and the page they are on. BUT ask no cards sent until an address comes in ?
Now if the person has a link then put that up.

ok - one of them we just have a Facebook link - do you think we should just put that up?
I am asking for addresses from these people. I guess they just don't get online as much as some of us do!!
