Molly's Adopt a Sailor project

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

Support our Sailors

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Sailor. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a Sailor that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.

We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Sailors.

Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.

Will I get a thank you from the Sailor that gets my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.

The Sailors are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden Sailors are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Sailor.

However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Sailor which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.

Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.

Julie, Yes, that's correct. Postal service only insures while in their care...once it reaches military post office...it's anybody's ballgame! Same with delivery confirmation....it will tell you that it reached the military PO destination...but won't tell you when it's actually delivered :(
Sue--I've never seen AA either {except in my work title or a help group}!

Diane, just confirming on the address. It's FPO AA, not FPO AE? I"ve not seen AA before.

Julie - I just asked the postoffice this question today and he confirmed it. Mailed off the seabees boxes today - 4 boxes total. Already posted my totals. my son asked me to send his division a care package so will do that Monday. He wants them to get it while underway - he said they miss my care packages since they got back -lol!

That is true Julie... insurance is purchased on the US postal service care... not the military shipping portion... so sad to think of packages not arriving! Heading to the post office tomorrow to get my packages in the mail! Last chance for stories from moms to go into the scrapbook!

I think I remember hearing that Julie --- its insurable *in the USA* once it comes to the militarys ---it is considered arrived at destination (something like that)

That last word is supposed to be "correct"!

Here's a "heads up" for all of us sending packages to our own sailors this Christmas. I heard from a Marine mom, who's son NEVER received his package last year, that if you insure your package that insurance only covers it while in the care of the US Postal Service. Therefore it insures that it gets to the base or military, period. Once delivered to the military base that insurance is no longer effective. Anyone know if this is corredt?!?!?

Got an email from my son that said they had an awesome dinner on their ship.... lots of food and it was really good. No one went hungry and just thankful for a nice day.

Mail to reach him is taking at least 4 wks...if not longer. He just received the Halloween pkg I sent him in mid-Oct! Good thing I've already sent out his Christmas stuff! I hope he gets them before the new year. (or at least before his bday in Aug!)

Happy shopping for those that are brave enough!

You go Diane!!
Congrats Marlo, that is so awesome that you get to pick up your son! My youngest son (sailor #2 who joined first but went in 2nd but got out already!!!) called me when his ship went into Norfolk because he needed me to check a map, they couldn't find their way OFF BASE!! Not much of a mapigator!
