Molly's Adopt a Sailor project

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

Support our Sailors

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Sailor. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a Sailor that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.

We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Sailors.

Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.

Will I get a thank you from the Sailor that gets my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.

The Sailors are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden Sailors are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Sailor.

However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Sailor which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.

Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.

I need some help. I am going to pick up my son in Norfolk Thursday, but I dont know where it is, the Navy base not the state. I am coming from East Tennessee and since they dont have an actual address I dont know where I am going. Any help would be appreciated.

Karen Ott, I LOVE your hubbys spin on the PO and Think we all know its TRUE...APO_FPO addys are ALL discounted I email the post master general -printed the response out and handed to the postal clerk....Yes I am a bitch but when it comes to ""knowing""" when you are right...YOU MUST be..LOL
Now that PO clerk gives me a nodd and wave when I walk through the door, then excuse herself for a potty break..LOL..

Oh Sue, do I love that idea. ....once I'm back to the online world from home, I just might have to give that a try, but I do love giving updates to my postal crew at CardSmart! Here's to a great day all.

Lyn ---I just heard from Colton (1st sailor) and he has the weekend off and has nothing to do either (he is in Newport News)
He said they were going to go for a free dinner at some resteraunt for those who are alone. I will talk to him tonight and ask where ----maybe they could all meet up.

Hi everyone -- Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth about sending our packages. It's hard for me to get down to our post office, so I just go online to www.usps.com and print a shipping label, then schedule a pickup -- all online. You even pay for it online. You do need to have the customs form filled out (weight, etc.) but twice I've sent 3 large FPO flat rate boxes to Norfolk -- right from the comfort of my own front door. The mailman just leaves a note that they've been picked up, and you can then track it all online, too.

So, I ordered 2 cases of large flate rate FPO boxes (there are 25 in each case) and 50 3-part customs customs forms. It's all free, delivered right to your door within a few days, and makes life so much easier for me.

My best friends husband is a retired post master according to him" no one in the PO knows what they're doing, so they all sit around and debate on the right answer for several hours, that's why our mail is always late"....LOL...(I did quote him)............

I was told by one PO worker that the price is based on the zip code and then another one said that isn't true. I think they don't know what they are doing.
