Molly's Adopt a Sailor project

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

Support our Sailors

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Sailor. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a Sailor that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.

We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Sailors.

Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.

Will I get a thank you from the Sailor that gets my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.

The Sailors are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden Sailors are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Sailor.

However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Sailor which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.

Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.

I checked the web site on the free phone cards but it takes up to 2-4 weeks to process the request. At this point, it would be better to purchase the phone card. But its great to know this site for future projects!

My son, Matthew was deployed aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower from October 2006 to May 2007 and I really enjoyed sending him a package of his wants and needs every two weeks.

I'm going to make some cards from Dad's jpg this afternoon and have our high school youth group do the cards they are writing tomorrow on those instead of Christmas cards. The kids will be thrilled and so will the Sailors. Thanks for doing this Dad,,,you're a gem.

Sammie suggested the bubble wrap too Molly so I'm going to go with that and send the package with lots of prayers that they stay intact. Molly what about packs of gum? I thought about that one too but when I was at the store the candy canes just sorta jumped off the shelf into my cart (so I tell my hubby).

Alright we go with that. Wing and a prayer. .....I almost put a prayer up on the prayer wall on N4M....it was short and sweet. Please God, Let these phone cards from Molly's Adopt a Sailor work. I know that's kinda asking for something material, but I still asked last night. ;-) Last night, I also used Dad's post card for the USS RMD (which is so very awesome--he posted it above)....and made a Christmas card out of it. Yeah! Again, I can't wait to send these. Here's to a great day. I'm updating the count right now!

Based on our other months of sailors we have done (all over in the sandbox) we have found that if they are on a base anywhere in the middle east countries they call home for free. That is why we have never sent sandbox sailors calling cards. Our ship could be anywhere, from Mexico to Japan to Greece. Because we do not know where they are we just have to fly on a wing and a prayer that wherever they are during the holidays that our cards work :)
