Molly's Adopt a Sailor project

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

Support our Sailors

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Sailor. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a Sailor that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.

We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Sailors.

Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.

Will I get a thank you from the Sailor that gets my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.

The Sailors are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden Sailors are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Sailor.

However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Sailor which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.

Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.

Karen,
LOL...good comment! And oh, how true....my FIL is a retired PO employee...and he didn't even know what FPO or APO meant when I gave them sailors address!! Or he was just playing dumb because he didn't care??? LOL
Diane....LOVE how you get soooo fired up about subjects! The guy at my PO window always turns his sign around to "closed" as soon as he sees me coming! ROFL!!!

Diane, send that single sailor to the fleet and family service center or if they have a single sailor center on Norfolk, they will hook him up with somewhere for a free meal!

Marlo GOOD LUCK>> I search yesterday Virginia on here and no activity on that group...since like Jan.....I know someone was asking for a help, a sailor needs a place to have a meal...I just don't know anyone there!!!
I think the Sailors that have it off ...should spend it together.! NICE thought huh! ...

Marlo, if you are driving, hopefully you can go through Smithfield, VA. There are some beautiful old homes there.

My dad retired from the PO as a carrier. I grew up hearing what a "chicken s**t operation" the post office was from my dad! The management doesn't know how or what to do but they insist they can do it quicker, better, more efficiently than the carriers. It really made for some great holiday meals because his brother retired as a Post Master - labor and management at the same table...

Marlo, find out which base and we can get u exact directions. As for getting on base, all your sailor needs to do is get your drivers license number, state where your license was issued, your date of birth and full name. He then can give that information to the pass an ID office and they will be able to clear you for enterance to the base. You must have a photo ID (Drivers license) when entering the gate and anyone who is with you that is over the age of 18+ will need to be put on the access list as well. Anyone else younger in the car will just need a photo ID.
