Molly's Adopt a Sailor project

As a group, we would like to adopt a group of sailors and send letters and/or packages. I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailors lives if all of us would just write one letter (you can do more if you want)

Support our Sailors

What is the most critical or best thing I can send?
Your SUPPORT! This is NOT an attempt to resupply the military, or fix every logistical problem. What counts here is the morale of the Sailor. Send a letter or a new Army tank, they both help, but a Sailor that knows he/she has the support of the folks at home will use that tank far better than without the support.
Count on that.

We will continue to do our best to list the items requested by the Sailors.

Again, this is not an effort to get you to spend a bunch of money, it is about you sending support to those who give us the freedom to express our thanks for our freedom.

Will I get a thank you from the Sailor that gets my package?
We hope you do, but we do not guarantee it.

The Sailors are under no obligation to reply. They can't be. We can't burden Sailors are busy doing there jobs. Sure can't have their leadership tell them to reply either. If you get a reply, it is voluntary by that Sailor.

However, if you want to really increase your chances of getting a reply, simply pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, and maybe a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Sailor which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send.

Many of the troops are asking that you include your email address in your letters and boxes if you would like a reply or thank you. This is of course far easier for the troops that have Internet access. This is completely voluntary on your part and does not guarantee a reply. But it helps.

I finally got the pictures of the new basement posted on my page. It shows the entire construction project. So, if you want to see what I've been up to for the last 7 weeks, its all there.
diane, did you pack up all the sweatshirts? If they are white, I can embroider NAVY on them. Great job to all the Central Florida group!

Hey Guys,
For the last 5 yrs I've worked for American Red Cross & Adopt an American Soldier. We send an average of 12 - 15 boxes a week. I keep in touch with several Chaplains that are deployed ( they let me know of any military not getting mail or needing a little xtra pk me up) We always have put Chaplain in the return address and they said they haven't had any problems receiving yet. When they get the package they give it to someone who really needs it.

Lyn, that is great information. I was told by my PO that I would be charged to have it returned and they suggested the chaplain.
I would the USPS would get it all together so we get the correct information.

the surface/airmail pertains to transportation from your PO to the mailing PO. Then it goes by air. And I know from personal experiecne, that checking surface is not a good thing. That was my 1st box to my son, the one the cake was taken out of. Hey, the guy must've gotten hungry on the road.

Did something unique today thanks to Ally's suggestion. I did a craft fair today and I put 6 pillowcases for the USS New York up for adoption. I asked for $1.00 and gave the peeps alittle paper to sign that said "this pillowcase was adopted by and a blank space for their name "
. Got $29.00. I have 2 more fairs to do. I am excited.

I have had two boxes returned from FPO addresses (not MAS boxes) and I didn't have to pay anything either time.
tina Comment by tina on November 14, 2009 at 12:48pm
If you check return to sender overseas the po will make you pay to send it back to you so I put in att: commander any sailor or solider in the box.

I have always checked the box saying that it is a gift and they have still made me write the statement on the customs form. This is at two different post offices.
