My son is trying for a diver contract while in DEP. His PST scores are Swim 10.08, Push-ups 85, sit ups 87, pull ups 18, run 12:18, He only has a few more months before he ships out for bootcamp September 28. He just turned 21, loves diving and is a certified diving instructor with PADI but with the navy it's all about the PST scores. Any advice or experiences. Thanks!

hi luvmysailor,

Did your son get a dive contract?  If so where is he in the training?  Maybe hasn't been to boot camp yet?

My son is a reservist and got a contract and goes to pre-dive after boot camp which starts on 7/21.

I'd really love to hear any comments about pre-dive training!

B'sMom... thank you!  Sorry I am just replying to your response!  Update, my son PST'd last week and should find out Thursday or Friday if he will be picke dup for the Diver contract.  He did good on the PST, but I know its very competitive so we shall see!  I am curious how many make the cut each month, do you happen to know?  Also just curious do you know your son's PST scores, curious on how my son did in comparison to someone who was granted the contract.  Thanks again!!

Luvmysailor, I'm a rookie Navy mom too so I'm probably not the best choice to answer questions.  However,  my son was originally contracted for nuke then passed pst for ND.  I know the swimming is hard because the stroke they must use is not one used for recreation.   Honestly B watched videos and got in the water to practice as much as possible.   Hope this helps, just tell him to go for it! He'll get it soon and pass the pst! HOOYAH!

Hello, I am new to the group.  My som is in DEP and currently holds a AO contract scheduled to leave on August 12th.  He was just cleared to pursue a Diving contract and has been assigned a motivator that he will start working working with a few days a week to get ready for the PST.  He had a fellow recruit test him on the PST and he surpassed everything but the swim which is where he needs to focus his training on now.  He really wants this, any advice on preparation for the PST.  If he gets the contract, I am hoping his date doesn't get moved up but I have heard it could.  Thanks so much!  (Rookie Navy Momma here)

Hi Ethan's Mom! Exciting time for you! My son just finished Dive School in Panama City! I'm so proud of him! He is home right now for the holidays then back to Panama City for graduation on January 14th! He will then be stationed at the New London Submarine Base in Connecticut.
Good luck to your future Diver!

HI!!!  I am new to this group!  My son is currently in boot camp....Ship 04 Division 806!  PIR is 2/6/14!  Then onto Diver training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi: Yes it will be almost a month after PIR before our son starts Dive Prep. In the meantime they spend a lot of time working out at the gym and keeping their space inspection ready. He's also had time to get his 2013 taxes done on base at the Tax Assistance Ctr which is located in the Loft gym. In addition he attended Indoctrination trng for a few days and also has been attending some pre-Dive Prep trng this past week.
They are not allowed to stay in their barracks room during the day. They get daytime liberty on the weekends, at least so far.
Hope this info helps.
Take care,
roguevalgal
