Yes, when people come to our house and see the flag in the window, they ask what it means. And are impressed when I explain. I have seen these also, from time to time, as car window decals and never knew what they meant. Now I know, LOL! And last weekend when we were in Pensacola, bought one for my car window. Haven't looked at the group yet but I hope this video is on there that another Mom sent to me one time.....if not, I'll ask again.

Hi, there is a Blue Star Moms group here on Navy for Moms, it has some interesting information about the Blue Star flags. I am actually starting to see these flags in windows around my area. I am going to try to sew one. Make some as gifts for friends and co workers with family in the military. I think they are a nice way to keep our military in our minds, and to keep others without family in the military aware of the sacrifice our amazing men and women are making everyday for them and us.

Hi - does anyone know where outside the US Rescue Swimmers can be stationed? We are hoping to be overseas, but aside from Japan, where else could we end up? Thanks!

Beth, my oldest son has been in 2 1/2 years. He was on the USS Enterprise and now graduates Aug 10 from corpsman school. So, I have one in my window with 2 stars.

just curious... How many of the moms in our group display the blue service star flag?

I waited to put one up at our home until Garrett finished FRAC and joined the squadron in Japan. Somehow that seems like when his career matched the meaning behind the flag. I might have been faulty in my thinking, I don't know. If you don't want to post your thoughts here and clutter the site, feel free to contact me as a friend... I'm thinking that you all would find the service star flag to be a positive, yet there might be other views out there. I am not taking mine down any time soon... As a matter of fact I am ordering a two star flag to recognize my new son in law who is a USMC officer!

ChrisAmo, wow- I hope that it's only training, but we all now that long deployments come with the territory. Yes, I know that his wife is fully capable and that she'll be just fine...just a shame for Newlyweds to be apart for so long. Anyways, I hope that you and your family are doing well.

Hi Beth! Yes, I liked Pensacola-NAS very much. I think the base is nicely spread out and the buildings are - shall I dare say - pretty? Kinda plantation looking. And my son's barrack's is very nice......used to be a hotel. I would have LOVED to stay at Navy Lodge but reservations were made at last minute so it was booked. But it's very pretty set up in the trees and it's on the beach!

Hi Christi,
This is supposed to be the long deployment for 6-9 months, however rumors have been flying around that this is yet another training run and they'll be back....or not. If he doesn't show up in 3 weeks I'll know it's the big one. As for his wife, she has a good job that she loves, is in 3 volleyball leagues, has a ton of friends and is a very confident, self-sufficient person, so I have no doubt she'll do just fine. They have a nice apartment in a secure complex so he was very confident that she'd be OK..

I think it's great when they get their own place. When G. got his first apartment (years ago) he called me complain that it cost so much for utilities and laundrey and food and yadda yadda yadda.....I said welcome to the real world, son! They really begin to appreciate what Mom and Dad did for them all those years of growing up.

Kari, which RS gal do you mean? The suicide? She was in helo maintenance is all I know. He didn't tell me her name, I'll ask in the next e-mail I send him.
