Hi All - My son completed A-school and got his orders: he is being sent to the USS Roosevelt in Norfolk/Newport News. It's in dry-dock until 2012 and most likely, he'll be there for most of his time. His orders say this is his permanent assignment, but we know how that goes. He's a little disappointed - he was hoping to get sent to Japan or Diego Garcia - but we're thrilled that he's in the US and close enough that we could actually get there to see him. He's home this weekend so we got to spend Thanksgiving together and then he'll be home for 15 days starting the 30th before he has to report. So, no Christmas, but we'll celebrate before he leaves. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Hi, Jake is losing his roommates soon. He has 2 spare rooms in his house, He lives in Chesapeake, not far from the base. He is currently home in California for a few months, but will return to Va. end of Jan. Let me know if your sailor needs a room. I'll get them connected with Jake.

Hi Everyone, Eric is in Norfolk on Harry S Truman, an aircraft carrier, and he loves it also, (what a relief for mom) He is in the Fabrication Shop and says the group of guys he works with is great. He is adjusting to a new city, but has ran into several friends from Great Lakes! Will miss hiim for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, but he will be home Jan 4 - 10 so we are thankful for that.!

Hello Ladies,
Jeff and his family are safely now in Bremerton, WA. We drove from Modesto, CA on last Wednesday and arrived on Friday. Unpacked the Uhaul and did some shopping that night. Went by ferry to Seattle on Saturday and flew into Oakland later taht evening. Long trip with the babies and rain, snow and fog. Jeffrey reported on Sunday but his ship is out to sea. It should be back by Thanksgiving. Not sure what his schedule will be like. He worked for his recruiter while home so I hope he gets credit for it? Sure do miss my Grandbabies. Hope everyone is having a good week.

wassup as the kids say ???

My son is on the USS Bunker Hill
So far so good
He kept laughing about getting lost on the ship.
He says everytime someone would send him to get something it took 30 minutes
He kept getting lost ..lol
But he seems pleased
and happy
and proud to be an HT.

Mary c - My son did not get his "orders" until his last week of hands on! They were having several mix ups, and he was threatened to have to stay in GL until it was sorted out. But the last week, he was assigned to Norfold, HS Truman, and was able to come home for two weeks. He did one week with his home recruiter RAP, which was supposed to count towards the leave days he was taking and now he is having a hard time getting those days credited to him. So you son if he is thinking of doing RAP needs to be real careful with his time. It may even hinder our son getting home for any of the holidays, just not sure yet.

Loved the comment on the "Navy Straw" Will send that to my son!

His Orders didn't come til 2 or 3 wks
AFTER "A" school...and then the mess i already wrote about

Sue,
Getting correct Orders was crazy...
It has been 6-8wks
of being on hold,
then orders to Japan
Even got a call from the ship in japan @ 1a.m.
"oops no " -personnel in charge messed that up..

and then orders are on hold again......
Ok Mom.....
orders are to San Diego..ARE YOU SURE ? I said....
*sigh*
The had to wait another 2-3 wks to get to come home
I finally said I won't believe it til
i see the whites of your eyes!

He goes to San Diego
Wed
He won't be home for Thanksgiving or Christmas
:(
Guess I have to use my "Navy straw"
and 'suck it up'.

Sorry Mary, I just went back and read where Jeff was stationed.. but when in the hands on phase did he here about his order's?

Hi Mom's...
Mary, My son Trevor said the same thing, he didn't like the first part of HT, very boring sitting on a computer all day...He just finished his first week of the hands on stuff, and he LOVES it..He said that he finally got to get his hands dirty again.. I thought that was funny..He likes to be busy with his hands, he is not one to just sit at a computer all day..He has 3 more weeks left, and then we don't know, where he will be going... When did Jeff get his order's while in this phase? Also where was he stationed? And was he happy with that?
