Does he like it? Was his A school hard? How long was it? My son Cody is just starting A school at Great Lakes. Sorry for all the questions just haven't met anyone online who has actually been stationed somewhere as HT. Thanks

My son made it back just fine. MEPS went well for him. He had a really long day yesterday. We picked him up last night at the recuiters and, we all talked there for awhile. Monday or tuesday we will be able to talk to his recuiter alot more so, more of my many questions will be answered. My son is going to be a Hull Tech. He found out that he can be an advanced Hull Tech. His recutier wasen't sure what the advanced part of his job ment but, he was going to look into to it for us and let us know we we see him next week. If anyone knows what the advanced Ht is please let me know. Thank you. All I know so fare is that after he graduates in June 2009 he will be leaving for boot camp Oct. 7th, 2009. So we have lots of time to help him get ready.

I am a Hull Tech and ATF is a job grouping that means Advanced Traingin Field so it depends on how long he joined for to dictate if he gets a C school which is a more advanced profficiency school within the job like Super welder or Weld Inspector. I myself became a Super Welder.

My sailor signed up for the extra time, so I think that means he will do the C school or ATF right? He is currently on ship and deployed, do you know how long he will be with the fleet before he starts the advanced school? Just curious. Do you like being Super Welder? Are those the only two options? Thanks

Most likely he will get the C school and he might have already chose which one. How long? Look at his contract and see what his enlisted entitlements state if you still have it but if its there they are required to fulfill that obligation before his enlistment is completed. By the way I am the shprdoftruth, and yes I loved every minute of being a super welder considering that makes you a certified welder and there are fewer welders than HTs on the ship which comes responsibility for accomplishment. Yes they are the options that the HT job has to offer.

Hi, My son is in boot camp right now, into it for 5 weeks now...He went in originally as DC, but called and said that he can't now cuz they don't have an opening right now so,I guess he said he is going for Hull Tech.. He said A school is 17 weeks at Great lakes, but I read that it was 8 weeks , Do you think it is 17 or 8 weeks???

its 8 wks now and its better to be an HT because they both work hand in hand. just HTs weld
