Hi Paige,

Welcome, glad that you have joined. We are here to give any support we can, and exchange information. My son, Bryan, has returned to Great Lakes and will begin his basic schooling before going to San Diego to be assisgned to the USS Makin Island. "Undesignated" was a surprise to me but Bryan is staying positive that San Diego will be a good thing.

Hope that everything goes good for your son.

Hi Paige: I don't know "what's up"...but it sounds like your son is happy with his choice. Most of us weren't that fortunate...the undesignated status came to many of our sons because of problems with "A" school...academic, physical training, etc., my son was very disappointed at first...now he's looking at it as a new twist in life..an adventure. If he's excited...try being excited with him. Maybe he just wasn't happy with the MAA program once he got into it.

I just found this group and am really glad because my son is undesignated and I don't really understand why. He said it was his decision to go undesignated so he could see some other jobs in action. He was one week away from graduation as a MA in San Antonio. Had already received his orders and everything. Now he has new orders to go to Norfolk to serve on the USS Wasp. He is very excited about this but has no rate. What's up with that?

Hi everyone--

This will be my first Thanksgiving without my crazy son but I am glad he will be with his fiance! In addition to his extra liberty that he found out about on Monday, he turned around on Tuesday and got his new orders! He will report back to GL at the beginning of Dec. for his training and then he will be going to Norfolk, VA and be on the USS San Antonio! I am very happy that he will have something to look forward to now--no more raking leaves every day!

Janet: Welcome!! This group is a real blessing. Also, Master Chief Bowes has joined our goup....the faceless picture in the center of "members" ...he's available to answer questions, so if you have any don't hesitate to leave him a message. I'm glad you're here....there's a lot of support on this page.

Got Cory's car running...it WAS the battery. But then today one headlight went out. God is really looking out for us....getting everything fixed before we head out to Virginia....boy, am I ever grateful!

Joan: You're on for that shopping trip! I'll call when I get back into town.

Yes, we are here, and we know what you're going through! Where is your son right now? Whatever led up to the final decision of "undes" for your son, is not nearly as important that we stick together through all of the waiting game. My son has been undes since mid August, and now has orders for Hawaii....go figure....hope you and your sailor have a wonderful holiday!

Glad that you found us!! We are here to support you and hopefully offer any information that we can. Hang in there it does get easier. We are all proud of our Sailors but as Mom's it is hard to watch them struggle. Like you said, he is safe and in the end they will be just fine. Take care and hang in there!

Hallelulah!! Somebody else like me exists! Thanks for starting this blog and for sharing so much of your feelings and questions. My son has been undesignated since late October, and as you all know, it is so very frustrating for him and so awful for me to watch. However, he is safe and sound and the best is yet to be.

What a great idea. I am sure that Adam will be very happy to see Brooke. Bryan will be, or at least hopes to be, home for the Christmas Holiday also and like you I can't wait. I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving looking forward to seeing Adam in a few weeks.

Hi, All--
My son, Adam, who is currently at Lackland AFB, just found out he will have four days of liberty over the Thanksgiving holiday! Unfortunately, he cannot come home to Tennessee as it is just liberty, not leave. I can't get off work with such SHORT notice, so I did the next best thing to me being able to go--I bought a plane ticket for Adam's fiance, Brooke, to go to San Antonio! Hahaha--I am sure he would much rather see her than me anyway! She & I are planning a surprise visit in a couple weeks for his birthday and he is also hoping to get leave over Christmas, so I will see him soon enough!

Ladies--hope you all have a great Holiday!
