Thanks girls! :) Sure is a mixed bag of emotions right now, but then, isn't it always!? LOL

Thanks to a heads up from one of the Pre Buds moms, I found a special new Holiday decoration. I'm going to give it to him this year, then ask afterwards to keep it, so I can display it every year he doesn't come home...It's Santa in desert Camo, holding an American flag. JCP is selling them. Thought of you Judy. :) (Sure will be praying you get your Christmas wish this year. You bet I'll pop in now and then, you were all my original peeps!) =) Santa was $39.99, on sale for $19.99, plus I used the $10 off and purchase of $10 or more cardstock coupon that came in the mail. What a deal! They are in the holiday decor section, probably going fast. There were several African American versions, but mine was only one of 2 white Santas left, and when I'd called in the morning there had been 5 or 6. The man at the counter said anything patriotic have been popular items, especially those.

Another Pre Buds Mom said that Target has nutcrackers dressed in various military uniforms or camo. Look online at Target.com if your store doesn't have them, there's a Sailor one in dress whites, holding a trumpet. :)

Danielle, my son has already been through Corpsman A school at GL ( a place he was hoping never to go back to), came home at the end of Oct '08, and put in his request to start this whole frustrating process after the holidays. He looked carefully at the rules for switching from Reserves to Actives. He had been told it's almost impossible to do so before serving for 24 months. However, he found in the fine print that it's actually 24 months OF DRILLING as a Reservist, before you are eligible!! So, if this comes through, (at almost 20 months of total service, including BC and A school) it will be a Christmas miracle! He's proof though of what my Dad always used to say... where there's a will, there's a way. My son is VERY strong willed and goal focused! LOL I'll keep you all updated.

Carol-it's back to GL for Pre Buds he goes. Winter in Chicago! :P

Angie- That is GREAT news!! I know how long he has been working towards this. He must be very excited. I hope it works out that he gets to spend the holidays home with you and goes the first of the year. This way everyone is happy!! When he goes Active, don't forget us. Jump on here once in a while and update us.

I hope everyone has a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! Hopefully some of you will be with your Sailors. Chris is hoping to get home, but will not know for sure until he comes back from training in the field this weekend. Hopefully all goes well out there and they all get to have a long weekend off!!! I didn't have him home last year for the holidays, so I really want him home this year, especially with him deploying!!!

Congrats Angie! I hope it works out for you with the holidays. Learning so much on here. (Not really understanding all of it, but I'm passing some of it on to my son in A school) He was told when he signed onto reserves that he could easily switch to active after A school..haha right..

Wow, that is great, Angie!!! Am soooooo glad that it just about to happen for your son! He is one of the very few but am so happy for him. He has worked hard at making it happen and hard work is showing his efforts now.
Hope he doesn't have to leave until after Christmas tho. That would be so nice for you guys to really celebrate it all!
Where is his "A" school?
My son says he will go Active when he gets back from being deployed in 2011. He is ready to order the new patches now. Is excited to get them sewn on. LOL

CONGRATS to your son Carol, welcome to the PO3 club! =) My son passed his in the spring and is now waiting to see if he will have to give it up in order to FINALLY get to see his Active dream come true. I know you girls have patiently listened to me, and prayed for my son, (he's one that luckily didn't claim or receive his bonus) for months now (and I thank you!) in this excruciating "Hurry up and wait, and wait, and start over and wait and wait again" phase I/we've been in, but it's looking like it actually may happen, SOON. Talk about holding my breath! They say his package, and all waivers, (BIG hurdles!) have cleared Tennessee.

Now it's back to MEPS and waiting for a ship out date-he also has to do a final PFA within 2 weeks before he ships-AND the big question...before Xmas or after?? Looks like Thanksgiving at home for sure, so I'm VERY grateful and know how fortunate I am. :) One last Christmas together would be such a bonus blessing, but I hardly dare get my hopes up. If they give him the opportunity, especially with a narrow window, he'll go, even if it means spending Christmas alone at Pre Buds when all A schools are standing down for the holidays. :( They have told him that if they don't have a date before Dec 15th, the offices will shut down and they won't send anyone until after the first of the year. Our "Leaving in Dec" DEPPERs Group Moms are being told the same thing. So, keep praying please. We are so close and it's getting exciting for him and a little scary and emotional for me. But I'll leave tomorrows worries there and focus instead on supporting you all.

That's the great thing about being an N4M member, we're all at different stages, up and down, there and back at different times, so we can be strong when someone is struggling, breath for each other as it were. :-) (((HUGS)))

Yes he is a MA. Seems that they are deployed a lot. Yes, I feel like you do. Scary.
I can't wait for August when he is back so that I can breath again. Just as I start to breath it sounds like you will start holding your breath. I am proud of my son, but I worry about him too. Can't take the MOM out of us, I guess.

Thanks, Judy.
No, he can't go Active until he has been in for 2 years. That will be while he is in Afgan. next summer. So don't know what will happen when he gets back.
That is good that your son is being activated tho. He must be a MA then. That job seems to go Active much easier than other jobs. My son will go overseas in June for a year so.................I can imagine you feel like I do. Kind of scary!

Carol F. Tell your son Congratulations!! That is wonderful. Any news about him going active yet? My son has been activated and is being deployed to Iraq in January till August. Not much down time for him as a Reservist. He has been in VA for additional training since the first week in October. Only 5 months off since he left for BC. He might as well be Active. I hope it works out the way your son wants.
You must be proud of his promotion!!

You guys are right. It takes at least 2 months to get the bonus after signing a form for it. But my son ended up signing a form saying NOT to receive the bonus and he still ended up getting it a few months later. He wasn't happy due to him trying to go Active since you are not to accept the bonus.
But.................that is the Navy for you. You never know what will happen with anything!

I have some good news tho about my son. He just got a call late last nite from his chief telling him that he passed the E-4 advancement test! He is now an E-4! He is pretty happy about that.
He has only been in the Navy for 16 months so he has done well so far.

Rene is correct. It does take about 60 days. Good luck. I hope he gets it straightened out. They held up their end of the bargain, they should be paid in a timely fashion.
