Navy For Moms

I'm interested to know a little more about this. My son has to drill this coming weekend 10/10-11/08, and I would like for him to look into this option.

My son, is reserve currently but wants to go active. He just recently signed up for inmobilization. From what I understand it's a program to aid an active soldier in the field to come home for a time and then return. The sailor takes his/her place during this time. Has anyone else heard such a thing? What are your thoughts?

My name is Kristy, I have not heard either, my daughter started A school in Nov. we are learning as we go, will ask my daughter about this. She is in IS in Virginia, and informs me reservists will be serving in Afghanistan after c school regardless of status, I thought I was going to be sick. Will stay in touch, I do not spend much time on my computer.
Hey...my son is in IS in Viriginia. He started in November also! Reservist. He told me VAGUELY something of this sort. I thought he was just confused, or trying to be dramatic. Guess not. So..my son PIRed in GL ON Nov. 7th. Was your daughter in the same group?
HI...Diane here...My son is an FTS/TAR...currently deployed on the Uss Rodney M. Davis
Should tell you a bit more..
My son signed under the TAR program hoping for shore duty..But as you can see no shore duty!
I have asked tons of questions..to military personnal...recruiter etc etc..
And all they can say to my question is...since we are in War time....that he may just be activite because of it..
So as you can see...My son is deployed and wanted shore duty but is assigned to the Davis till he re-signs with the Navy or decides to get out!!!!
So not much of a difference for him....
Ask away..any info I have is yours..

Well due to the economic situation being a reservist is difficult for my son. He has had a hard time finding a job, and therefore he decided to sign a conditional release to go active FTS. According to the recruiter who signed off on the release, he said that my son will now have to talk to the CO when he goes for drill this weekend, and the CO will talk to him. The CO will either sign off for FTS, which means he will be active in any reserve unit, or he can sign him off to go Active Duty. If he signs for Active Duty, my son will have to requalify again at MEPS. He is currently an E2, but has no rate. In some ways he states that this way they might just send him back to A School for a rate, rather than have him listed as undesignated.

We will see what happens when he comes home on Sunday. As much as I hate the thought of him going Active, I hope that they sign him off for FTS--stateside. But as you mentioned, anything is possible with the Navy.

Any information you can give me is most helpful.
One thing that is for sure...My son will be stateside..But where is the Navy's business. And how activiate is also the Navy's business.
My son when asked, Would you recomment FTS to another Sailor, he response is NO!
Good Luck

Lynn, Please post on what your son finds out about what he gets to do. I am very curious for any information for my son who will find out about his status when he comes home the end of Jan. after "A" school & reports in at his duty station.
Am walking on needles about all this.
My son is in the reserves too. Are there groups for Naval Aviator Moms?

my son also signed as FTS, thinking shore duty, but is so far unsure about it now, and everyone in his class got to pick their first orders, but not him yet.....waiting

My son is also in the Reserves. He is a Seabee based out of the Seattle/Everett area. He has told me he can sign up to be deployed at anytime, but nothing specific about a FTS program. Maybe this is because he is in the Seabee group (or whatever the proper name is)?

I spoke to my son tonight and he said that FTS stands for "Full Time Status" while being in the Reserves. His rate (Seabee) doesn't offer FTS, or else he said he would be in it also. He said it has NOTHING to do with "shore duty", and everything to do with where the Navy NEEDS you!!

If this information is incorrect...please feel free to correct me. Thanks.

ebigirl, my niece is a Seabee and in A school currently. We live in Tacoma. Can you email me directly, I am hoping to connect with a few other reservist parents. Thank you! my email is advizrgroup@gmail.com and cell/text is 253-336-6412 :)
