I'm off to Dallas this morning to give the retreat to my friends community. I'll be back on Saturday around midnight.

Like many, I didn't hear from my sailor on Mother's day - I was pretty meloncoly, until I thought of each of you and the sacrifices that you each make so bravely.

Wow, Monica our sailor has been in 11 years and never a mention of a Tiger Cruise - guess we all don't get to do that. Sorry that you miss the opporturnity. But you aren't alone. Maybe you can adopt a sailor who has the opportunity to take you on one :-}

Just wanted also to invite you all to Grass Valley on Memorial Day. The Blue Star Mom's are going to host a Memorial Day walk to visit all the plaques for the Gold Star families. Our chapter continues what was started in WWII, by purchasing and placing the plaques on the bridges. They will be cleaning the plaques this Saturday. Awesome stuff. So, if you are looking for something to do the Gold Star walk will be from 11 am - 3 pm.

Monica....Before he rents anything go to the website for the law enforcment in that area.  They all have sites that tell you how many calls for service, what type of calls they have, and to what neighborhoods and streets they respond too.

Thanks, you guys. He goes back to VA tomorrow. He expects to drive all his stuff back here next month. He won't even be there for when the Ike comes back. Doesn't bother him, but I had wanted to do one more home-coming. And I never got to do my Tiger Cruise. =-( Now I just have my Russian-linguist, MA daughter stationed in Maryland. She does some cool stuff (that she can't talk about) , but it's not the same as having a kid on a ship.

Monica, I live in a small rural area outside of Elk Grove. We recently relocated from the Bay Area. We really like Elk Grove. It seems to be a rapidly growing area. There is a lot of new development going on. My husband still commutes to his office in Mt View a few days a week on the Ace Train from Stockton. There can be traffic in Elk Grove going towards Sac on 5 and 99 in the morning but there is no traffic going towards Stockton. I have a big house out in the country if he needs respite housing while relocating. There does seem to be some areas in Elk Grove near the northern edge of town that might want to be avoided.

I am so excited. My sailor got a leave chit approved and will be home for a week soon. He is currently underway out on the big blue ocean.I will have all three of my kids under the same roof for 1 day before they scatter all over. We are putting the 4th of July bunting on the wrap around porch and having a photographer come take a family portrait.

Hi Monica,  I've lived in the Sacramento area for 35 years, I'd love to talk to you about some of the areas around the area that your son may want to look into, and some definite areas to avoid.  I sent you a PM.

Hey, long time, no see. I still keep my eyes on you northern ladies. I'm here because I need some info. My son is on his terminal leave and was flown here for a job interview. He would be working in Stockton, but is considering Elk Grove as a place to live. Any info about it would be appreciated. Are there areas to avoid? Is it a nice area for a young man with a GI loan to buy?

I still make Linda's lemon bars and haven't found any better. =-P

I'm up for it, Alaina, I like the M&G's at Mom's houses the best.
