Does anyone know the passing percentage rate for the Nuke program? I've heard anywhere from 50%-95%. Just curious...my son will be going in 04/05/10 but his friend just got sent home after his first six months of nuke school.

Bea :)) !!!! The only thing on your list that you might not find in the Midwest is Gordon Biersch beer.

Hi Eliza-There are several tours downtown Charleston. The one we took is at the Red Barn and is drawn by mules. Excellent tour and close to the slave market shopping. Look for brochures with the red barn on front, there was a coupon for a couple of dollars off each ticket.

Bea, We wouldn't laugh at you! In addition to my Nuke, 2 daughters live out of state. When any of them leave, I cry, and then mope for a few days. Then I give myself a stern talking to, pull up my big girl panties and get on with it!!

Hi everyone! Been working on rebuilding our house so I've been offline a lot this week. My son M went 2 weeks ago to MEPs and scored high on his ASVAB. His desire is NUKES, and he took the NUKES test last Friday. How long until those results are in? They said it would take 2 or 3 days, but it is almost a week now. He has continued going to DEP meetings. I'm rather new at this...

Hi Bea, I know exactly how you feel...my oldest is off at grad school, my son is in GC, and my youngest leaves for college on Saturday. Don't know if I'm gonna cry, or celebrate!! :) Like Paula said, we'll laugh with you in a few months, never at you. BTW, I moved here from Long Island years ago, and it was absolute culture shock (I live in the Midwest now). No, we don't have Gordon Biersch beer, but really, things have changed a lot and we do have all the others! LOL

If I remember correctly, my son's trip to DC went like this. He was with a group of 5 or 6 guys being interviewed. There were a series of interviews conducted by a group of officers. If a candidate passes, the last interview is with an admiral. The admiral gives either a thumb up or thumb down. Immediately after the admiral gave my son the thumb up, he signed the papers and was sworn in (I think he was the only one who got the thumb up). Silly me. I thought there would be some special ceremony. I had threatened to take him back to DC and have them do it again with the admiral, of course, so I could video everything. That fell on deaf ears, like many maternal cluckings (please feel free to substitute your own word) from former helicopter moms. I am out of sorts tonight - getting my younger son ready to depart from CA to OK. Don't mind me. I am just going through another impending empty-nest episode. I dread sorting through more boxes that they leave behind. I am familiar with the East Coast or the West Coast. The Mid West is like a foreign country. I hear they don't have sushi, Indian food, Chinese food, sour dough bread, Gordon Biersch beer or vegetables. Go ahead, Nuke moms, LYAO. Just hand me another box of tissues.

Hi nucmom, where did you take the wagon tour? I will be in Goose Creek next week visiting my son and that tour sounds very interesting. Thanks.
