Hi Susan, and weclome. Here's my two cents on them getting to leave early for bootcamp -

A job becomes open because someone else has been disqualified or delays their entry for whatever reason. The job opening is offered to many recruiters, and if they hesitate to accept for even a minute the opportunity could be gone.

Your Recruit will have to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. This means that all of his affairs have to be in order, and there maybe little time for saying goodbye.

My Nuke was accepted into the program several months into his DEP contract, and about 4 weeks before he was originally scheduled to leave. It delayed his entry until November 17 (yes, almost one year ago to the day 8-), but he had requested to go early, and I had real fears that he would be gone at a minutes notice.

Then again, I don't know how often Nuke rates become open at the last minute. If this post is of ANY comfort to you at all.... 3/10 is my Sailor Boy's birthday... 8-)

Okay, I just spoke with my son Bo! I found out that he will leave for A School on Dec 2. His classification is MM-machinist mate. He was so happy, and looking forward to graduation:)
Have a good night.

Susan, I would think it all depends if there is an opening at Goose Creek. When there is an opening, they send them to Basic 8-9 weeks prior to that. That is the way it worked for my son.

My son is scheduled to leave for BC in 3/10. His job cut his hours in half and his recruiter asked if he wanted to leave early. What are the chances of him leaving for BC early if he's signed up for the Nuke program?
