Hi, Cathy! My son Sam is scheduled to be in the class, so I'm so glad you started this thread! I know there are at least two other Moms I've come across in discussions whose sons/daughters are also in this class. There's a Facebook page that one son started for the OCs in this class too. I'll try to get the info and post it here.

I am on that Facebook page and have left links to this page. Congratulations to Sam....

Hi Cathy,
I'm hopping in here, but not quite sure yet if my son Michael will be in this class or not. Don't they start every two weeks? He just took his oath today, administered by his grandfather who is retired Navy. Said he has to submit the final paperwork that it's done, and he will get the date when he starts. But it's his understanding that it's October so we'll see. Would be nice if that's the case, since I just today came across Leanne and she told me about this thread. I absolutely need to have other moms to talk to when this is all going on or I will go nuts!

Welcome....this is a great place to gain insight and meet new "friends". Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for starting this discussion! Brent is the originator of the Facebook page, and is really enjoying getting to know his classmates prior to departure. I think it helps pass the time waiting! Last I heard, they are planning to meet for dinner on the 17th in Newport. I am so happy to connect here with other moms who will be sharing the journey. Take care!

You are welcome...I am also on their facebook with the thread to lead their families to here. I tried it as a separate group but I think everyone will find this easier...My daughter, Erin will probably go up early with me to see friends in the area and go spend a couple of days in Boston. Her dad and I made a trip up the east coast last year and we loved Boston and Newport so we thought it might be a great time to show her a little of it. I do not think Tom will be able to join us this time due to his schedule/training...he is moving into a new plane at Fedex and will be in Memphis.

I hope it is ok to let the family members know about the facebook page....I already have but I also know the Admins can just not accept them! I am just trying to let the class know where to send families/friends so that we can all stay updated and close to each other. I hope to get the families that travel to Newport to also have a little bit of time together before we say....see ya in 3 months!

My husband is going to drive up with Sam, sort of a man-trip thing. They plan to get there Sat around noon I think. It'll be great hearing about OCS through the experiences of Brent, Erin, and (hopefully) Michael too! And there are already four Mom friends too! Let the adventure begin! OK, well, soon...

(By the way, Cathy, we live in Memphis.)

Found it...thank you. Now I need to get Michael on Facebook so he can check it out. He's a holdout on that one, no matter how much his brother and sister-in-law try to get him to sign up. Maybe this will be incentive; a great way to 'meet' other classmates beforehand.
