we are flying from upstate NY we are considering flying in on 12/31 because I stress about the weather and would hate to have flight delayed or cancelled. We thought about staying at a Holiday Inn in Chicago the 1st night and then closer to the base the day before graduation. The next thing will be to learn what to do with our son on Liberty (places to go etc)

Hi Everyone!
I just got my letter today with the DIV and per the website her PIR is 02 Jan. I wll be going and I can;t wait. What a wonderful way to begin the new year! Kim is in DIV 054. Anyone know of any deals on flights, hotels, etc?

Jennifer we are from Southern Illinois where the 2 interstates cross in Effingham. I had told our son to go to church as it is a peaceful time to get away from the barracks. The snow may be a problem coming into Chicago but they can handle it pretty good. It will be about a 4-5 drive for us up to Great Lakes depending on weather. No letters yet but we did not expect alot as he does not write but he may send more to his girlfriend. We may see some Wed / Thurs time frame.

Jasons Mom - We got the box of clothes I am glad someone warned me about that ! Nicholas literally went with the clothes on his back so he had little to send home. We got one letter saying it is stressful but they are working hard to make the transition. He is grateful he can go to church services and helps out as religious petty officier. We are flying to Great Lakes from upstate NY so we are anxious to make travel plans. Its so nice to get to know people that have sons daughters going thru boot camp and graduating at the same time. We are trying to figure out when to travel because I am so worried about weather and plane delays. Where are you from and have you received any letters yet ?

Jenifer L -- Did you get his box of clothes yet? Jason's came last week. Jason is in 052 on the same ship. They can have several divisions in the same ship. Jason left on the 4th to get there on the 5th. We should get a grad packet before long.

Hi Everyone-Glad to join the group. I am so happy tonight. I got my first letter from Chris today, and he sounded great. He is in Division 907. He says the food is not bad, that he gets plenty of sleep, and likes his rack mate. He said the first few days were very tiring, but now he is fine. He did say they picked him for a section leader but he does not know why since his marching is not very good, but it is improving.
All in all, he sounded great. I of course was at first afraid to open the letter thinking he would not be happy, but when I read his words I started crying. I guess out of relief and pride. I know things could change from week to week, but to know he is starting off on the right foot makes me feel so good. I think I will sleep well tonight. The first time since he left.

Look forward to getting to know you all as we go through this journey with our
recruits together.

My son Scott is in Div 907. Haven't received a graduation packet yet. Hopefully it will come soon so I can start making plans. Hope Jan. 2nd comes real soon. Can't wait to see my son.

To all: I was stationed in Chicago before my retirement from the Navy and yes it was recruiting. I am amazed at the new barracks or ships as they are called. I left the area in 2001 and none of these were built yet and I am very impressed, maybe jealous as I had the old barracks when I went there. You all with sons or daughters in the 900's companies look for them on the PIR pictures or videos 2 weeks before ours and you may see them perform. They will be starting to perform in the 2 preceeding PIR's.
