Hi Carol and Valerie -- after PIR on 2/27/09, my son attended his A school at GL for Corpsman. graduated in 6/09 and returned home on leave for a week. Then reported to FMTB at Camp Pendleton for his Marine cross training. He is now at 29 Palms working at the hospital waiting for his next orders which will probably be to deploy with a Marine unit somewhere during 2010. yes, very hard to believe it's been almost exactly one year (1/5/09) that my son Devin left home for the Navy! It was such a hard day for our home. We dropped him off at the recruiters and I had such a hard time getting in the car. From there I drove my husband and I to the hospital where his mom was (crying all the way) to learn that we might not be bringing her home. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer right before Christmas and we thought we had 18 months. But on 1/5 learned it might be days or weeks. We were able to get one phone call during BC between Devin and her. She passed in March 09. I have to say BC was the roughest time this family had ever seen in quite a while and hopes to never have again. But we were sooooo proud (and cold) that day at PIR!

Hi Carol, Thanks for the update -- I too have been wondering how everyone is doing. Tony is stationed in Norfolk and is in the Strike Group Oceanography Team (SGOT). He really likes his AG(Aerographers Mate) job (weather forecasting/oceanography), and has been on two short cruises. He passed his Board exams earlier this month (on the first try!) and is looking forward to some longer cruises in early 2010. The best part his he's due home on Sunday, 12/20 and will be here for 6 days! My other news is I have a new grandchild -- a grandson born in Sept. -- so Tony will see his new nephew for the first time next week. I wish you all a blessed holiday season -- and a happy 2010!

Merry Christmas everyone! Can you believe it has almost been a year since our Sailors started BC? I hope everyone is doing well. Aaron is still in SC - in the 2nd phase of his schooling - power school. He should graduate in March, we are going for that ceramony! He will then start 6 months of Prototype school. That will either be there or in New York. The schooling is tough, but he seems to be enjoying it. He is hoping to be picked up for the STA-21 program and go to college for Nuclear engineering - its pretty competive though we will have to see what happens there. Aaron gets to come home for Christmas, I'm so excited! he will be here in a couple of days and stay for 2 weeks!
How are your sailors doing? Where is everyone? I have been thinking of everyone - miss our updates!

Valerie, I'm so glad you got to spend time with Tony! I think the visits make it easier for us Moms to "let go," you know?
Matt moved out this weekend! He found an apartment, and bought some furniture on Saturday, and declared "I'm here to get my stuff" on Sunda...all while I was away on a business trip to Georgia!!! I got a call on Sunday telling me he's packing up and moving out. All I could do was congradulate him over the phone. I did get to spend Monday shopping for things for him, and we went to his new apartment to help him unload a bunch of stuff. He's still not completely moved out, yet, and I now I'm rushing him so I can set up my New Sewing Room! LOL (I don't even sew!) I honestly believe that if it weren't for the Navy, he would be living with me into his 30s. Thank you Navy! (Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit emotional over the whole situation, but he's 22 now and I'm glad he's getting out on his own. I did the "my baby's leaving me" crying fits when he left for boot camp, now I'm just celebrating his coming a man!

Hi everyone, It's been awhile since I've had the chance to get on this site and catch up. I hope you and your sailors are all doing well. Tony graduated from A School in Biloxi, MS in mid-July and was home on leave for a couple of weeks. We had a nice time and it was sure nice to have him home for awhile. He's now in Norfolk, getting some additional aerography training and awaiting the chance to go on his first cruise (maybe by the end of the year). Otherwise, work is busy, the summer is flying by, and we are getting excited about a new grandbaby (a boy) who should arrive in the next couple of weeks. Hugst to everyone! Val

Thanks for all the good wishes from everyone! Valerie I'm sure are now enjoying your son and all of the excitement of being home. Alex leaves for California tomorrow so I am getting a little sentimental. It's amazing how much they change and then they come home and maybe change back a little from hanging out with the boys from home. He has been amazed that some of his friends haven't changed and are doing the same thing they did in high school. I am grateful to the Navy for helping Alex to grow!!!! The tears are already falling just thinking of his leaving!

Oh Valerie I am so excited for you! Have a great time with him! Hug him a lot for all of the Mom's! We all are proud of him and happy that he has graduated A school! That is a major step in the Navy! I will pray for his continued success! And for him to deal well with his new surroundings! Love and Hugs kathy

I'm anticipating the fridge raiding...Tony comes home on leave TOMORROW! His graduation from A school is in the morning, then it's off to the airport! We opted not to attend -- there are only 8 in his class, and we heard the ceremony is quite short. I don't know how Tony's going to like going from hot & humid Biloxi to extremely hot & dry Phoenix. About the time he gets used to it he'll leave for duty at Norfolk! LOL I'm so excited to meet him at the airport tomorrow, I don't know how I'm going to get through a day of work!

Oh Nancy that sounds great! I know how that is with the boys all hitting the fridge! But boy do we miss it when they are gone huh? I am happy that you got a visit! I did spend time with Alan in Pensacola and we had a very nice time. He took me out to dinner twice and actually paid! My hotel was nice but very lonely when he was on base! I am rather paranoid when alone but spent a lot of time at the Navy museum on base! I think after two days I could give the tours or fly the planes! Seriously! But I was very thankful for the safety of the base! And it was nice to just sit and enjoy Alan's company! His buddies are going to visit soon so that will be nice! I am so glad that the boys are doing well and I can't believe that all of the mom's have survived! We have come along way since the first days of bootcamp. Remember just waiting for that first letter and phone call? Now we are pros well almost! I will be praying for Alex to have a safe trip to California! Well I will write soon love and hugs kathy
