I hear they have so many recruits and new sailors. Probably because of the ecomony. Is he in Pensacola? I heard they have a backlog. Aaron told me everyone is being really careful -they don't want anyone to have an excuse to sent them home. They are so full they have a low tolerance for screw ups. Is your son bored? Once he gets going he will be busy. Hope he starts soon. I'm glad Aaron is almost done- he will be home for a visit before he goes to his permanent station.

My son David starts his A School classes today Monday after having waited three weeks at his dorm in the main section of Great Lakes. We were able to visit with him yesterday (Fathers Day) at Great Lakes and walked around the complex. It is huge and is totally separate from the boot camp area. We saw his dormintory...the clock tower...movie theatre...bowling alley...streams...it is truly amazing. David was actually happy to have had three weeks to get aclimated with his new surroundings before starting his A School Corpsman classes today.

Judy, the guys have to wait until their schedule is arranged - kind of like high school - before they start classes. Tell Rich not to be upset about it and enjoy any free time he has right now. When classes start, he'll be as "busy as an ant at picnic"!
Hugs from Houston,

No, Peggy, you are not the only one confused. When Steven told me he was a "fire man", I was a little disappointed that he didn't get the job he signed up for but I WAS WRONG! (again, oh well) The "fire men" work the engines or "fire up the engines" to get the ship moving. The guys that fight the flamage are "damage control". Only in the Navy! hee hee

I found out that sometimes it takes a while before they start a class. Aaron has school 7-4 now everyday. It's funny how some of the schools are so different. Aaron calls alot and has his laptop so I get emails. He really likes it so far-lots of new friends and keeping busy. He got to fill out his dream sheet yesterday. Told them he would like CA or FL in the States and Austrialia or Italy overseas. haha they probably wont send him to any of those places.

Yeah...mail pickup is a challenge in A School, I guess. David still has at least another week to wait before starting his classes.

Hi everyone - it was great to talk with Danny every day!! We talk all the time now on the computer. It is great! He seems to be really busy right now and he is trying to get adjusted to life in A school. I know night classes can be a little tough, he doesn't get done at times till 2 pm. He stated it takes him approx. 5 minutes to get his mail. I am so proud of him. i am still trying to find out more info about what he is doing at A school! He is going into FC - Fire control man_- shoot I thought in the beginning he was going to be a fire man, putting out fires. But I soon learned that isn't the case at all!!! Am I the only parent that is confused on what their child is doing at A school?! Thanks to all!! Peggy

I'm not hearing as much from my Sailor as I thought I would now that he's in A School. It's a little disappointing because I looked forward to more communication. However, the rigors of A School keep him super busy and on the go. Mark, the mail center in SC is also only open for mail pick up between 2P and 3:30P each day.
