Can someone tell me about the adopt a sailor program? I was trying to afford to go to San Diego for Christmas but as broken hearted as I am it does not look like I have the extra money to go b/c the airlines have jacked the costs up so high for the holiday :( My son was alone at the base on Thanksgiving, he arrived the night before and knew nobody. It was one of the worst weekends of my life, he was lonely, sad, and missing his family. He is doing better now that he has met people and made friends and knows his way around. He is going to be there a while b/c I beleive his ship is dry docked for about a year. Him and I were on the phone talking and texting all weekend over Thanksgiving just trying to get him through it all. I need some info on how i can find someone to sponsor him for Christmas, I cant imagine him being there alone again, I would also love to pay it forward. I am in Washington State and would also like to be part of an adopt a sailor program. I am going to pray that someone is able to take mine :/

Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving aand hope to hear from anyone still around

txbabyocmom, That's awesome! I'm sure you will enjoy the time with you son while he is home. My son is still in A school, but will get to come home for Christmas! Very much looking forward to it. I can't wait to hear how Thanksgiving goes, he signed up for the adopt a Sailor for Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time with your son!

My sailor graduated from A school 11/2/12 and started C school on 11/5/12!  He is one of those going to Japan in January.  I sure hope he comes home before he goes.  He says he doesn't know when/if that will be just yet.  He is enjoying school and making friends.  He said a bunch of them are going to prepare their own Thanksgiving dinner!!!  Pretty Cool!! Hugs to all those missing their sailors!!

Meegan, Hi! It's nice to hear that your son is doing well. My son is doing well also. I am very much looking forward to having him home for Christmas. It will be weird not having him around for Thanksgiving, but he told me that he signed up for the adopt a Sailor for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to hear how that goes!

Hello everyone, I wanted to stop in and say hi and see how everyone is doing. My son is still in A-school and just got re-classified to 9 charlie so I am hoping to hear his orders this week. He graduates on Nov 15th. Does anyone know about how long before his grad from A-school he will get his orders? I hear a couple of his roomies are headed for Japan. Just curious how much longer I have to wait. I am so excited for him to come home, it was tough without him but I have done some much needed growing on my own. I miss my Sailor so much and sometimes when I come on here I miss him more. Please if any of you are still around let me know how your families are and of course your Sailors. I am sending hugs to each and every one of you and your families!

This is a shout out to any Colorado families.  We have planned a meet & greet breakfast or lunch on 10/13 in Castle Rock. If you would like to attend, get details and RSVP on the COLORADO MOMS group at http://www.navyformoms.com/group/coloradomoms?commentId=1971797%3AC...

I am still waiting on the DVD.  I have read that there are some that have been defective, so you might want to watch to make sure that there isn't anything wrong with it before your sailor comes home.  I guess I am going to have to call to find out if he ordered it.  He assured me that he did, but.....

Yes - we are so happy your son is finally done!  Congrats and enjoy the day!

Also received the DVD last week.  We haven't had time to watch it but we decided to wait for when our son comes home.  He graduates A school in 3-4 weeks (mid-Oct) and will stop by home before he 'ships' out from SD.  His job is MM and requires more on-the-job training than text book.  Can't believe his time there has flown by so fast.

navyknit22, I am sooooo happy that you are attending graduation! It will be even more special knowing all that your son and you have been through to get to this point. Still get chills thinking about it. I just rec'd the DVD from PIR 7/20/12 last week. It was really nice being able to watch it. ENJOY!!!! You, your family and your son certainly deserve it!!!!

txbabydocmom - I must say I miss all the communication that was going on with everyone while our sons/daughters were in boot camp! I just talked to my son today, he is doing well, and is looking forward to coming home for Christmas. I am sending him a box tomorrow with a jacket and of course some treats!
