When my son Austin was at the airport to come home before going on to San Diego, he was outside smoking a cigarette and a man asked if he was boarding a plane and Austin said he was. The man said "you won't be able to take that Zippo lighter on with you" so Austin said here then you can have it.  The man said give me your address and I will mail it to you. When his dad picked him up at the airport here he wanted a cig. and didn't have a lighter and told his dad the story. Never thought he would see that again. About a week later a pkg came in the mail. The man had paid the postage and sent Austin his lighter. Makes this moms heart so full knowing these are the people my son has sworn to protect.

Hi all, It has been a long time since I have been on here. Will spend some time tomorrow reading over everyones info. i can't believe you all are still on here. I came back to see if I could find out info or talk to anyone whos child is on the USS Antietam. But I am happy to find all of you on here. Will come back later Hugs to all!!!!!!

gsdkids - WOW, what an amazing story and it had to make your son feel really good, too!!

Tobianne - BK's son will be deployed for his birthday. I suggested that at one of our Ohio Mom's lunches we should pack a box for him. BK suggested that we make a list of all our kid's b-days and do boxes for each of their b-days at lunches throughout the year!!! FUN!! BTW - we got over a foot of snow in less than 2 days!!

TJ'sMom - I remember how hard it was when my first husband deployed. We had no internet, Skype, etc....snail mail and calls from port were it. I know they are doing their jobs, but really, they will also have some great times, too.....and it makes it a little bit easier to think about that. A surprise care package now and then will make you and him both feel good.

Hello all,

Haven't checked in lately. Well my son leaves for his first deployment today.He is aboard the USS Leyte Gulf. This is so hard for me, I will miss him so much. He was married over Christmas so his wife when to see him off. Mama will be there for the welcome home. Hope you are all doing well and your sailors? May God bless and keep them all.

Yay Seabee daddy. I have seen so many things done in a great effort for these Sailors. I have heard some horror stories also. We will just live in the awesome ones. These kids (adults)- Sailors deserve our love, support and utmost respect and I for one will scream that all over. Does not matter the branch, it does matter that they are giving of themselves.

My son in the National Guard took four care packages to the post office in Scottsdale, AZ, for shipping to my daughter on the USS Lincoln.  He was in uniform and as it came time to pay for the shipping the gentleman behind asked where the packages were going.  My son's response, "To my big sister who is stationed on the USS Lincoln."  The man promptly pulled out his wallet and responded,  "Let me get that, my son is a seabee and I couldn't imagine spending the holidays without him."  What a wonderful holiday present and a great way to look forward to the New Year.  To all of our Sailors, be safe, godspeed.

Well Rachel has been at sea almost a month now.  It seems like forever.  I hear from her ocassionally and she is loving it.  Hasn't got sea sick or anything.  Loves her job.  She did call Christmas day and that was very nice.  She sounds so grown up now.  It's hard to believe it's only been 135 days since pir.  It seem like an eternity.  Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.  I wish all of you a very Happy New Year and the safe return to all of the troops when they get to come home.

Kimmydee- Oh thats the Navy base. Kay is for sure going to Okinawa. I am already sad. She has not even left TX and she thinks I am crazy!! I am just getting my irrational thoughts in order, lol.

 

Yes Suzi, and I think the weather is holding out nice. However I did get to sit for an hour and a half in my "COLD" car today!! I locked myself out of my house. I am starting to resemble my mom I fear. lol Gonna be baking tomorrow eve and getting things together.

 

I am also trying to get things together as Kay will be home in a few weeks, I still have Kyle here and I have to find a place for her. Not fare to make her sleep on the couch!!  So going to be getting things moved around, will take me until she gets home for it to be finished!

Kimmy...Japan...very cool, but understand your daughter missing family.

Lynch is still in Pensacola and will grad his A school 2/1/11. Then to Cali for SERE and then to JAX. He loves Air Crew even though mom worries about the potentials dangers. :) He told me to not even ask about SERE when's he's done with it. He says he will be in JAX a while, but I know well enough to NOT count on that yet, lol.

Looking forward to seeing Tobianne at our Ohio Moms Cookie Exchange this Saturday!! I just wanna give her a HUGE hug!!

Hi all...Glad to see everyone is doing so well, and our Sailors are moving forward and beginning their wonderful careers. I was one of the fortunate ones to have my son Nick home for Thanksgiving. And I also had the pleasure of enjoying another Sailor from Indiana join us. If any of you have an "Anthony", and you know that he went to Maryland for Thanksgiving, know that I tried to do my best to spoil him, just as I did my own. It was so much fun hearing about their adventures, albeit, from Groton, and not Okinawa, but fun to hear all the same. I have to say, although my son was home for a weekend a month or so ago, everytime he returns, he stands taller, and speaks more and more maturely...what a difference, in such a short amount of time. HOORAY Navy...you really have made a man out of my little boy.

I only check in here periodically, so I don't want to miss the chance to wish you all a very merry christmas, and god bless you and yours...and I am holding all of our Sailors tightly in my heart.
