You are going to have such fun Tee! I saw your post on the other site. It has never been a dull ride for "B" and your family since this started. I am excited that he got the SWCC program finally. Gotta run to work. TTYL

Rachel and Kim, I so excited for you too! The next part of the crazy ride is about to begin! B is supposed to head to C early in January. I'm going to start cooking this weekend...

Rachel isn't this getting so exciting. I can hardly wait anymore than "A" can. Hopefully they won't eat too much for thanksgiving even though they are always starving for more food.

Hi girls, my son is still in GL, one more week to go, has a cold for the second time. He can hardly wait to go to Coronado finally. Hope all is well with all your sailors.

Tee Hope everything works out for his flight and for his change in training. Hopefully he won't be on hold too long. But remember, the Navy is great withhurry up and wait.

My son has his T-giving flight, but still no definate 'yes.' Yes says when ever he asks they say, basicaly, "don't bother me." I'm just having faith that it will all work out. He is really homesick. I'm sick for him to come home! In case it didn't mention it, my son is not longer in pre-buds. He is on hold in GL to start SWCC training.

I was going to suggest Southwest also. Even though they don't offer a refund, they will give you what you paid in a "credit". You have a year from the date of purchase to use it, and it is transferrable. Liz spent over $500 for a "I might get to come home ticket." Plus SW has non-stop flights from Seattle to Chicago, one of the few airlines that do.

Tonya, I am really sorry to hear about Nate's problems. It is the pits, no doubt about it. The guys are really in a bad position in their particular program. We told "A" to stay at GL for Thanksgiving and that we will wait till he gets to SD to make plans. There is more to the whole whether they will leave for SD earlier or later from what I understand. We also told him that most likely if he is there in Dec. we expect that he will get the New Years leave time. It is only right that those who are married with families get the time for Christmas. I hated all the Christmas's we missed with the hubby when the single members of his unit got the time off. Hang in there. The money loss is really bad. I think in their cases going with the refundable ticket option is something they all should look into or looking at Southwest who doesn't have a refund fee. Hang in there. Something will fall into place. Something will fall into place. Something will fall into place.

Argh! Frustrating! My son was FINALLY informed that he wouldn't be heading to San Diego until mid-January (for STG A School), so he made flight arrangements home for Christmas from GL. (Which cost a lot more money than it could have because of how late he was informed). Now he's suddenly being told that he may just well be sent to San Diego BEFORE Christmas. If that's the case, he's figuring close to $1,000 out-of-pocket (overall) to change over his airfare, if he even can because flights are booking up. And he still doesn't know for sure. And he doesn't know WHEN he'll know for sure. I'm sorry, I just had to vent. The thing is, it's frustrating and expensive enough for a single guy like Nate, but what about sailors with with families? Families that rely on the income and simply cannot afford the extreme cost of refundable tickets or dealing with the cost of changing out tickets at the last minute? Or even knowing if getting a flight at a late date will be possible? Grrrr.

Hey ladies, I just went to the NEX site (Google Navy Exchange NEX and it'll take you there) and purchased a NEX gift card for Nate for Christmas. What's cool is that I uploaded a photo from his PIR weekend of all of us at the Navy Pier with Chicago in the background and that will be the front of the gift card! The only thing civilians can purchase there are gift cards, but they make a welcome and sensible Christmas gift. (Easily transportable!) :o)
