My son leaves for BC next week and will then go to A School in San Antonio for MAA. Are there certain jobs that are more likely to be "grad and go" and if so what are they?

My son was grad n go and found out after about 4 weeks into boot camp. He's a sonar tech. I know other sonar tech's who were not grad n go. I believe a lot of it has to do with timing. Being in the right place at the right time. My son was told when he met with the classifier in boot camp there was one seat left in the sonar tech school. So he took it and started A school right away. But I know many others on here who can tell a much different story. Time to put your crystal ball away and learn to be very, very patient! lol

Ya... join the club not sure when my son leaves for Groton CT, PIR 12/4, he's SECF (Sub Electronics/Computers Field). I'm hoping next letter will have more "for sure" info.

Melissa is so right. Best not to try to guess and understand the whys and whens of the Navy, just try to get a handle on the hows and wheres. N4Ms is great for that! Military life is tough on planners. =)

If a Recruit is staying at GL, they can still be technically "Grad and Go" but usually that just means they have to check in while loved ones wait a couple hours, more or less, and then they could be free to enjoy the whole Liberty weekend. However, if they are due to report to their "A" school elsewhere in the country, then there's always a chance of being a "Grad and Go", i.e. headed to the airport on Friday afternoon. The non "Grad and Go's" are free to leave with loved ones immediately after the PIR (Pass in Review-graduation) ceremony is over.

I would check in with our MA Group (think there's two actually) Moms. See what their experiences have been. MAs do go to San Antonio, but also VA and I've seen some switched during BC or receive changed orders after graduation! Nothing (dates, location, next duty station etc) is set in stone (unless it is written in the contract) until orders are in their hands, change can always happen. "Needs of the Navy" determines all! Just stay flexible, write everything on your calendar in pencil and pray, a lot! LOL Welcome to the life of a Navy Mom. It's a roller coaster ride, but you'll soon get up to speed and get the hang and flow of it. :-)

No way to tell! Even if the school is right across the street you could stay at bootcamp for the weekend!

You're just a baby!!! LOL (my Sailor son is my youngest kid and he's 27). I'm glad Angie and I didn't scare you off. I'd like for you to take over the group "Q & A with a recruiter". ???

Take over the group?! That depends on what I have to do! My wife already gets mad at me for being on the internet all night! lol. Plus I'm not a mom...would that be weird?

We gotta talk, dude! I work with our recruiters here in Tucson. I sat down with Brady, the current admin of the group "Q & A with a recruiter" and set the group up. Brady is transferring out soon and I'm trying to get all the recruiters on this site to pitch in and make it a TEAM effort to "man" the "Q & A with a recruiter" group. That way ALL of you recruiters would be helping out and it wouldn't be up to just ONE recruiter to answer questions. Make sense yet? You know I would NEVER dump on you!! lol, especially since you're married!! lol

Sounds good to me! Just let me know what you need me to do!
