Navy For Moms

Does anyone know how many times per year the Navy holds school for QM's?

Since there aren't very many Quartermasters in the entire Navy (I read there are approx. 2,000), I wonder if they have many sessions. I'm just wondering if Bryce will have to wait long after he gets out of boot camp in June.

And, can you tell me what they do after PIR while they wait for school? Where do they live, and what keeps them busy?

Thanks for any input!

hi sandy, i'll try and let you know what little i know. my son had PIR on 10/31, got moved across the street, went to some classes i'll call phase1, where he is introduced to live outside of basic training in a sense.....that was about 6 days. after that he went to some more classes (scc i think they were called) which i call phase2. now he has told me that he is on the list to begin QM training, but when that starts, he's not sure. but he says that its a good thing to at least be on the list to start. in the meantime, he just does duties around the area he's in....lots of cleaning probably. but so far he's ok with everything thats happened. hope this helps.

Yes, that does help. Thanks! Can they have their own personal belongings after they get moved across the street? Like, the all important X-Box - lol. I am just wondering what to take up with us when we go for PIR.

yes sandy, they can have those personal items-----x-box and stuff. just remember...........not too much, cause they still only have sooo much space to keep their belongings. just talk to him and find out, he'll let you know what he wants you to send. oh, and they love it if you send like home baked cookies or goodies.....they share with their friends and start forming that bond that is very important when making new friends away from home. hope this helps

oh ... sorry, i just saw where you were talking about what to take for after PIR. to be honest, i dont think ...at least my son was'nt able to take anything at all after PIR back to base with him. i just talked to him on the phone, and he said yea, not to try and take anything back to base that weekend, you could get into trouble for that. he said to wait about a week, once he settles in across the street, then you could have some stuff shipped to him. they can have stuff, just not during graduation weekend. if i can help, dont hesitate to ask. hope this helps

timothy got his orders right befor graduation, although he had to stay in great lakes for a few weeks befor he actually got to leave. He lived there on base with the others that were in boot camp. He still had duty and watches untill the time came for him to move on. he is in Japan now on the USS Blue Ridge, not where he chose but is happy to be there just the same. Hope this helps!!!

Hi ladies,
This is good for me to read your notes. My son will be going into QM school. He is doing what Randy said below...in various classes at this point, not the QM yet...not sure about all that though. He had his PIR 11/21/08. It was fun to have him home for Christmas but it went so fast. He doesn't know too much what all will happen yet. Guess it is waiting...if you have any ideas for him to get him ready for the QM school let me know.
Linda
